Divorce Denied
HANNAH’S POV:
THAT SAME DAY:
“Thank you.” I rose to my feet and shook hands with my lawyer.
“You’re welcome. We will be in touch.” She similed and elegantly walked out of my office with her heels clicking. on the marble floors.
Kara instantly walked in as soon as she left and took out the cup she used to drink her tea and the plate which had contained a slice of cake. She was such a epitome of elegance, from the way she spoke to how dressed to how she ate with grace. She was also so professional, yet young and I admired her.
“How are you doing?” I asked Kara, leaning back in my seat and staring at her.
She was an intern, and was in a third year studying Fashion as her major and art history as a minor at the Fink University. However I noticed that these past few days, she seemed so down and barely said a word which wasn’t like her.
“I’m doing fine, Miss Jones. Did I do something wrong?” She asked, and I’m not sure if it’s because of her facial expression but I could have sworn I heard a heart pounding in fear.
“Take a seat. There’s nothing wrong.” I rose to my feet, shut the door and took a seat next to her.
I asked her again, “What’s bothering you? You seem so drained all the time, is the work load too heavy? Is there something I can do to help?”
A single rolled down her cheek and her head was faced down, she quickly wiped her tears and responded, “It’s so silly, I feel so embarrassed. I’m sorry.”
I reached for the box of tissue and handed it over to her, “There’s nothing to be embarrassed about and to feel sorry for, dear.”
“Thank you..” She sniffled adjusting her glasses and chuckled, “I’m just going a breakup right now and I didn’t expect it any way. He just gave me a promise ring last month and all of a sudden, he just dumped me without any reason….I just really want to travel back to find out what’s going but I also don’t want to..”
She trailed off and I found myself saying, “Because you’re afraid to find him with another girl or you’re waiting for him to say it was all joke and it isn’t real but you know you need that closure in order to move on.”
She nodded repeatedly and cried so hard, I couldn’t help but embrace her. “It will be alright…it gets better…..I promise.”
I truly didn’t understand what it was like to love someone romantically. Did I ever love Elijah or was I just tolerating him and doing what I needed to do to avoid his wrath? I had only cried from pain, I didn’t even feel betrayed by Elijah when he had sex with me that night, all I felt was disgust and anger.
Would I ever fall in love with a man or feel other others except anger, sadness, joy of a mother and pain?
A knock came through the door and Maya barged in with urgency, “Hannah…” She trailed off when she witnessed the sight between us making Kara jolt up in a haste”Is everything okay?”
