The Unwanted Wife's Return (Ex-Husband Wants Me Back) novel Chapter 52

Hannah Jones Does Not Bow

HANNAH’S POV:

Maya’s eyes widened, half horrified, half impressed. “Good for you! But also, Hannah… oh God. People were there. Cameras. You know the tabloids will twist that, right?”

“I don’t care,” I said quietly, though the truth was I cared more than I wanted to admit. The image of the guests’ shocked faces still replayed in my head especially Janet’s face, I was so surprised she didn’t run after Elijah.

Where was she? And I just know she had a devious plan cooking up.

Maya sat down beside me. “So what are you going to do now?”

Lucas didn’t even let me answer. “We sue him. We press charges for harassment or defamation or something. This isn’t just about embarrassment, Maya. He’s been following her to the hospital, showing up at the office and now this this public circus. He’s not letting her go.”

Maya frowned. “But suing him will make it even more public. You know that, right? The media will tear into your past, Hannah. The twins. Everything.”

I swallowed hard, my throat suddenly dry. She wasn’t wrong. The last thing I wanted was for Andrew and Amelia’s faces splashed across magazines with headlines like ‘Elijah Martinez’s Secret Family?’ or ‘Martinez family’s Illegitimate Twins?’

Lucas leaned back, frustration painted across his face. “So what? We just sit and do nothing? Wait until he humiliates her again?”

“I didn’t say that,” Maya said softly. “But maybe… maybe there’s another way. Something quieter.”

I looked up at her, exhausted. “Like what?”

“Like talking to a lawyer about a restraining order. Or getting an injunction to keep him from showing up to your public events.” She hesitated. “You said you told him to sign the divorce papers, right?”

I nodded.

“Then push it through legally. If he refuses, let your lawyer file a motion to finalize it without his consent. He’s dragging this out because he still wants to hold onto you for some reason, Hannah. And it’s probably for control.”

Control. That word struck deep. Because that’s exactly what living with him, I realized how much of a control freak he was. Even tonight, when he said he knew about the twins, his tone wasn’t wounded. It was possessive. As though knowing the truth gave him ownership over them. Over me.

“He said he knows about the twins,” I whispered.

Both of them froze.

Lucas’s expression darkened. “What? I heard him say he knew something but I didn’t know it was about them.”

“He said he knows about Amelia and Andrew. Said he knows they’re his. And that he’s not signing the divorce papers.” I huffed.

Maya blinked slowly, processing it. “Oh God. How does he even know?”

“I don’t know,” I admitted. “I was careful but he had seen Andrew at the hospital and seen a picture of Lucas as well as the twins and I online before it was taken down.” I exhaled shakily. “And he added two and two and knows.”

Lucas looked furious now. “Then that’s it. We need to talk to your lawyer tomorrow morning. Because if he’s threatening to take the kids, you can’t risk this escalating.”
