The Vengeful Warrior Luna's Return novel Chapter 21

Isla’s POV

A soft tapping came from the windowsill. Three short, two long.

It was Kieran’s signal.

I rose on my toes and slid the window open. He slipped inside with the ease of someone who’d done it a hundred times.

“Shh.” I caught his arm before he could take another step.

Downstairs, my brother’s TV blared some late. He was watching a night show, and the old wooden staircase had a nasty habit of groaning like a tattletale in the dark.

Kieran shut the window behind him, his palm warm enough to burn.

“What are you doing here?” I grinned and wrapped my arms around him.

“Isla.” He gripped my shoulders, his eyes restless in the dim light.

“I’m going to break the bond with Astra.”

My smile faltered. “Break the bond? Why?”

“Mother’s life was hanging by a thread tonight.” His knuckles were bone-white. “I went to get Doctor Danelle. He flat-out refused.”

“How’s Lady Mora now?” I asked quickly.

“The alliance’s physician stabilized her… for now.” His voice was ice.

“But the chief doctor says only Danelle’s herb can keep her old injuries from flaring up. Danelle’s here because of Astra. He’s a lifelong friend of Pack Hale. Astra told him not to come—so he didn’t.”

It clicked instantly.

“So that snake… she’s using Lady Mora’s life to force you to give me up?”

“Exactly.” Kieran’s jaw tightened. “I told my family tonight. I’m breaking the bond. But don’t worry. I’m not taking a single coin from her porperty. I’m not trying to bully her, Isla. She just… cut too deep this time. She went too far. I can’t keep her as my mate.”

He knew me too well. He knew I despised Alphas who preyed on she-wolves.

I did, right?
