The Vengeful Warrior Luna's Return novel Chapter 20

Kieran’s POV

The light in Mother’s room was on all through the night.

“You can’t break the bond.” Father’s voice was hoarse as he sat curled on the stone chair, his injured leg twitching painfully.

“Other packs are watching us closely. If you kick Luna out now, they’ll turn against you. You’d be ruining your own future.”

My big brother Gary jumped in,

“Kieran, Father’s right. Remember that raid on the vampire camp? Whose men covered your flank? Hale’s old soldiers. You’ve just gained a foothold in the alliance—you can’t afford to lose their support now.”

“But she’s using Mother’s life as a weapon!” I clenched my fists, thinking of Astra’s calm face at the day-time. The anger inside me flared like wildfire.

“A sneaky, scheming Omega like her doesn’t deserve to be the alpha’s mate of Pack Zane!”

Mother had just caught her breath, her chest rising and falling unevenly, when suddenly her eyes flashed with greed.

“Break it! It must be broken! If she’s kicked out, everything she brought from Hale—belongs to us!”

“I never wanted her money!” I frowned. Her words hit like a thorn in my chest.

“Why wouldn’t you?” Mother pressed her hand to her still-sore chest.

“Once she’s out, everything she brought becomes ours. That’s a fortune—enough to hire a better doctor. Kieran, you know what it’s like to beg for coins. We had to sell our shops just to scrape together your wedding money. Our coffers are empty.”

Father coughed anxiously.

“That’s narrow-minded! What matters more, the money or Kieran’s future?”

“Future?” Mother sneered, torchlight casting harsh shadows on her face.

“The alliance needs a strong Alpha right now. Even if someone attacks him, the elders will only scold. But without money, what will Kieran use to bribe the quartermasters? To win over the stray packs?”

“Exactly! That’s what should happen! Astra’s nothing but an Omega riding on her family’s coattails.”

“Then break the bond. She’s jealous, disrespects the elders, even tries to defy the High Elder’s totem order. If we hadn’t called the alliance doctor, she’d be dead tonight.”

She turned to me sharply, eyes like knives.

“Those money must stay. Do you think Pack Hale married her off just for kindness? No—they wanted our fighting strength! Now that she’s ungrateful, don’t blame us for being ruthless!”

“The dowry cannot leave with her. Kieran, don’t be a fool. Understand?” She warned sternly.

“Reject her and kick her out of the pack! She always has her family’s friends to support her comfortably. But we need this money to build your future.”

I refused again.

“I don’t want her money. I just want to break the bond.”
