The Vengeful Warrior Luna's Return novel Chapter 24

Astra’s POV

Kieran’s face flushed red, the color creeping from his ears down his neck. His lips parted like he wanted to explain himself.

But he wouldn’t. I knew him well enough to understand—he never would.

Still… he hesitated. Isla’s letter, with its neat and poisonous little suggestion, was lodged like a thorn between his fragile pride and his hunger for gain.

If he didn’t do what she asked—if he didn’t take half of my money—she’d be disappointed. And Kieran hated disappointing Isla.

I tilted my head, letting a soft, icy laugh slip past my lips.

“What’s wrong? Having second thoughts?” My voice was quiet, but each word was a shard of glass. “Seems your so-called principles are just a mask you wear when the math works in your favor.”

Kieran’s jaw tightened. Shame and anger warred across his handsome features, but he stayed silent, forced to watch me walk past him.

“Come on,” I said without looking back. “The witnesses are waiting.”

He trailed me into the main hall. Gideon’s sharp wolf eyes locked onto me the moment I stepped inside. The old wolf pushed himself up with his cane, crossing the floor toward me with surprising speed for someone his age.

“Astra,” he rumbled, voice thick with worry. “They’re not forcing you into this, are they? Don’t be afraid. I’m here.”

I bowed my head to him, and for the first time that day, my vision blurred with unshed tears.
