Chapter 6
I turned in shock to see Wes, his face twisted with fury–and Stella right behind him.
He strode up to the altar in a few quick steps, ignoring Stella’s ashen face, and grabbed my wrist.
“Brynn, if you’re mad at me, fine–but you don’t need to marry some random guy just to spite me.”
“You’re my fiancée. I’m the only one who gets to be your husband.”
He glared at me, his grip so tight it made me wince.
I yanked my arm free. My wrist was already ringed in red.
The warmth around Julian vanished in an instant.
His gentleness was gone. He stepped in front of me.
He didn’t even glance at Wes’s clenched fists–just looked down and gently rubbed the reddened skin on my wrist
with his thumb.
“Mr. Vaughn.”
His voice was ice–cold, his eyes darkening.
“This is Brynn’s and my wedding. You crashed it uninvited, and now you want to drag away my wife. What gives you the right?”
He pulled me closer behind him.
Wes ignored Julian entirely, his face hard as he tried to pull me toward him.
“Brynn, stop this. Come home with me.”
“Wes, do you still think I’m just throwing a tantrum?”
I laughed bitterly, looking at that face I knew so well–yet it felt like I was staring at a stranger.
“I used to think you were a block of ice. I thought maybe, one day, I could melt you.”
“But you’re not heartless. You just gave all your warmth to someone else. To your so–called sister, Stella.”
The moment those words left my mouth, Wes’s expression changed.
“How did you-

Chapter 6
“How did I know? Is that what you were going to ask?”
“The day I got out of the hospital, I saw your chat with Stella on your laptop. And also-”
I took the phone a friend handed me and pulled up Stella’s social media.
“She posted photos of the two of you. She didn’t block me from a single one.”
“Brynn, you’ve got it wrong. Stella’s just my sister.”
Wes’s face went pale as he scrambled to explain.
“What kind of sister hangs a love lock with her brother? What kind of sister dresses up in a wedding gown and suit with him and plays newlyweds for a day?”
A sneer crossed my face as I tore apart his lies without mercy.
“Stella texted me herself. She told me you had your assistant fly to Italy to pick up the wedding dress I designed so she could wear it. She told me you went along with the whole ‘one–day marriage‘ thing!”
Stella’s face drained of all color. She rushed forward and grabbed Wes’s arm.
“I was just scared of losing you. I was afraid Brynn wouldn’t accept me, so I did something stupid. Please don’t misunderstand-”
Slap!
The sharp sound of the slap echoed through the silent chapel. Stella’s head snapped to the side.
“You hit me. You actually hit me–for her!”
Stella bit her lip and ran out.
Wes stood frozen, clearly shocked that he’d just struck the sister he supposedly loved so much.
“Now get out. We’ve got a wedding to finish.”
Julian didn’t hold back. He called over his security.
“Escort Mr. Vaughn out.”
It wasn’t until the guards grabbed him that Wes seemed to snap out of it.
All the anger and coldness vanished. All that was left was panic.
I saw his lips move, but in the end, he said nothing.
