The Verdict on My Husband the Judge: GUILTY novel Chapter 49

Chapter 9

I wake up in a hospital.

Disinfectant burns my nose.

White ceiling, white walls, white sheets.

Everything blindingly white.

Jake’s sitting by my bed. When he sees me awake, he rushes over.

Emma! You’re up! How do you feel?

His eyes are red from crying. Guy was terrified.

I try to move. My whole body feels weak as hell.

What happened to me?

Doctor said stress and anemia made you pass out.

Jake pours me warm water and helps me sit up.

Emma, I’m sorry. I fucked up. Shouldn’t have lost it like that

He looks guilty as shit.

I shake my head and grab his hand.

Not your fault.

Jake, thank you.

Without him today, I’d be the one getting destroyed at that hotel.

The door opens softly.

Richard walks in with his assistant trailing behind.

He looks even grimmer than at the hotel.

Emma, you’re awake?

He comes to my bedside and sighs.

Chapter 9

Focus on getting better. Forget everything else.

I stare at him, lips moving but no sound coming out.

I want to ask about Connor. What happened to him?

But the words feel pointless.

Richard reads my mind.

That disgrace Connor is kneeling in the family shrine, reflecting on his sins.

As for that woman

He pauses, eyes flashing with menace.

Legal’s pressing charges. Embezzlement, extortion, inciting violence. Multiple felonies. She’ll rot in prison for ten years.

At the hotel, every manager who knew and did nothing gets fired. Blacklisted permanently.

His response is swift and brutal.

No mercy for anyone.

But hearing this, I feel nothing inside.

None of this can fix what’s broken in me.

Richard sees my empty stare and sighs again.

Emma, I know this can’t undo the damage.

The Blackwood family failed you.

Whatever you need, just ask. If I can make it happen, I will.

He’s asking for divorce terms, isn’t he?

I stay silent.

Ten years together. Really ending like this?

My head’s spinning.

Then a doctor in a white coat walks in.
