"It's not my fault this time," Naylor said defensively.

"So it's Katrina's fault?"

Naylor pouted and said nothing.

Watching his friend's reaction, Jamison made a startling guess. "Don't tell me you're the one who got dumped. Did Katrina find someone better?"

Naylor's expression was a mixture of emotions, but he didn't deny it.

"Looks like I hit the nail on the head," Jamison said with a smirk, though the pain from his incision kept him from laughing too hard.

"Well, well, well, how the mighty have fallen. The great playboy Naylor, finally getting a taste of his own medicine. But this seems so sudden. Weren't you two fine yesterday? What happened overnight? Did she cheat on you?"

Naylor's face grew darker, but he clearly needed to vent.

After a moment of silence, he spoke, his voice low and resentful. "I asked her to dinner last night, but she said she was busy. So I went to another business dinner, and I saw her there, at the same restaurant, eating with some guy. I called her and asked what she was doing, and she said she was out with friends. But it was obviously a blind date. Does she think I'm an idiot?"

"And then what? You fought?" Jamison asked.

Dr. Ludwig wasn't normally one for gossip, but being stuck in a hospital bed was mind-numbingly boring, and he was desperate for some entertainment.

"It gets worse," Naylor fumed. "After their 'date' was over, I called her and asked how she liked the guy. And she had the nerve to get angry at me! She accused me of testing her, of not trusting her, of being passive-aggressive!"

He let out a bitter laugh. "You tell me, is that my fault?"

Jamison knew a bit about Katrina's family situation. "Maybe she didn't have a choice," he suggested. "The Lester family is always trying to set her up."

"She could have said no! She has a boyfriend. What's her excuse for going on a blind date? Where does that leave me?"
