The War God Alpha's Arranged Bride (Evelyn and Alexander) novel Chapter 24

Chapter 24

[Evelyn’s POV]

Ever since that pivotal morning when I officially met Granda Wendy, the atmosphere around the house had noticeably lightened. I had gradually grown at ease with most of the staff, and they, in turn, seemed to have grown accustomed to my presence. It was a small but meaningful shift, considering only a fraction of the pack even knew I existed. Still, it felt like a promising beginning.

On the upside, I hadn’t encountered Caroline or Fiona much since that initial meeting with Alexander’s grandmother. Honestly, I was grateful for the distance. The thought of enduring another humiliating confrontation was unbearable. I understood all too well that my knowledge and perspective on certain matters placed me in a complicated position. I hadn’t intended to step on anyone’s toes, but it was clear that things were happening behind Alexander’s back—things I couldn’t ignore. As Luna, it was my responsibility to ensure everything ran smoothly within the pack.

Most of my days were spent either with Nina or Wendy. When I wasn’t learning the proper dress and etiquette expected of a Luna, I was being briefed on the pack’s financial affairs. The days felt productive, and I was glad to be engaged rather than idle. Yet, despite all this progress, I wished I could say that things had improved between Alexander and me.

But they hadn’t.

He still retreated to his private study for the majority of the day. The only times we truly crossed paths were during meals and, of course, at night. By some small miracle, I had earned the favor of his grandmother, but that clearly hadn’t translated into his full trust—or even genuine interest. The cold reality was that our separate beds remained as distant as ever.

It shouldn’t have mattered. Really.

Why should it bother me if my own husband wanted to keep his distance in that way?

But it did. Especially at night. As we lay in our separate beds, each trying to find rest after a long day, I found myself aching for the warmth and security that came from sleeping side by side. It was a strange, almost painful longing.
