The War God Alpha's Arranged Bride (Evelyn and Alexander) novel Chapter 25

Chapter 25

I immediately saw through the forced smile she wore. “Alexander reached out to me earlier. He wants you to come meet him at the camps today,” she said, her tone carefully neutral.

Surprise lifted my eyebrows. “Really?” I asked, trying to mask the sudden flutter of anticipation rising inside me.

“Yes,” she confirmed. “He’s meeting with some of the pack members to discuss important matters, but he’s definitely looking forward to seeing you.”

I fought to keep my cheeks from coloring with interest. Turning to Nina, I asked her to make sure those seeds reached Wendy so they could be properly arranged and planted.

It was a relief to see how much better Wendy’s health had become since she started the special tea leaves and herbs I’d recommended. She was now capable of handling more complex tasks, which took a weight off my shoulders.

When I arrived at the camp, I scanned the area, hoping to catch a glimpse of Alexander. Yet, no matter where I looked, I couldn’t find a single sign of him.

“Maybe he’s in his private defense quarters,” Fiona suggested, her voice casual but with a hint of something I couldn’t quite place.

We made our way to the tent, only to find it heavily guarded by several pack members.

“Excuse me,” I began politely. “Is Alexander here?”

All the guards exchanged wary, suspicious looks. “Who’s asking?” one demanded.

As I had expected, Fiona stayed silent. I cleared my throat and tried my best to sound confident.

“My name is Evelyn. I’m Alexander’s Luna,” I said firmly.

Their expressions shifted—surprise, confusion, maybe even disbelief. It struck me how, even after nearly a week of being married to Alexander, most of the pack still didn’t know who I was.

The sting of their ignorance pricked at me more than I cared to admit.

Still, the guards eventually stepped aside and let us through.

“What are you doing?” I asked sharply.

Instead of answering, she sneered, a wicked smile curling on her lips. She muttered something almost inaudible under her breath.

“…Wrong place… wrong time…”

Suddenly, my heart jumped into my throat as she threw the ornate box to the floor. My eyes widened in shock, and a wave of fear and worry washed over me.

“What the hell is wrong with you?” I demanded, disbelief thick in my voice.

Everything about this moment felt wrong. I turned to leave, but just then, Alexander’s deep voice echoed through the tent.

“Evelyn?”

My heart skipped a beat, pounding wildly in my chest.
