The War God Alpha's Arranged Bride (Evelyn and Alexander) novel Chapter 26

Chapter 26

[Evelyn’s Perspective]

What on earth was happening right now?

My heart pounded wildly against my ribs, each beat so fierce I was convinced it might burst free from my chest. Alexander’s voice cut sharply through the tense air, slicing through the silence like a razor’s edge. I should have sensed something was off the moment I decided to follow Fiona out here. Alexander would never have permitted me to come to this place on my own. This had to be Fiona’s doing—but why? What was her game?

When Alexander’s eyes locked onto me, the icy whites glaring with a mix of disbelief and something darker, I felt as though my place in his pack was suddenly slipping away, crumbling beneath my feet. His gaze lingered on me for a heartbeat before flicking to Fiona, who was standing there with a smug expression. His brows knitted together in confusion as he scanned the room, trying to piece together what had just happened.

“Look what Evelyn did,” Fiona accused, her tone sharp and biting. “I warned her to be careful because that box means everything to you, but she wouldn’t listen.”

Was she seriously trying to pin this on me?

Alexander’s eyes narrowed as they landed on the box Fiona had violently tossed onto the floor. The confusion in his expression quickly twisted into anger. He whipped his head around and fixed me with a piercing, accusing stare.

I opened my mouth to defend myself, but Fiona jumped in before I could get a word out, making the situation spiral even further out of control.

“Good thing you showed up when you did, Alexander,” she said with a smug hum. “I was just telling Evelyn she shouldn’t be here, but she was way too stubborn.”

“What?” I hissed, staring at her in disbelief. “That’s not—”

“She was practically rifling through all your private rooms and even knocked over that box without a care,” Fiona added breathlessly, as if trying to fan the flames of Alexander’s fury.

Alexander’s anger was palpable as he strode over to retrieve the box from the floor. The way he clutched it tightly against his chest told me everything I needed to know—whatever was inside was incredibly precious to him.

I couldn’t immediately see what was inside the box, but judging by his hesitation to open it, I knew he was terrified of what damage might have been done.

Please, whatever’s inside… don’t be broken.
