The War God Alpha's Arranged Bride (Evelyn and Alexander) novel Chapter 8

Chapter 8

As they made their way back to the study, Oliver, Alexander’s Beta, was pushing his wheelchair with a playful smirk tugging at the corners of his lips. Now that it was just the two of them, the air felt lighter, and they could finally exchange their thoughts and opinions on the recent, chaotic events that had unfolded over the past few hours.

There was certainly no shortage of topics to cover.

“You know, sir,” Oliver began, eyes gleaming with a hint of mischief, “considering everything, you actually ended up marrying someone pretty fascinating through this arranged marriage.”

Alexander arched a single brow, tilting his head slightly to meet Oliver’s gaze from behind him.

“Fascinating?” he repeated, his tone laced with curiosity.

Oliver gave a short nod. “Yeah, she’s definitely bold,” he said, a note of admiration creeping into his voice. “She’s probably the only person who still looks up to you after you pretended to be disabled.”

Alexander found it strangely easy to reflect on the event that was supposed to change his life forever. What the world didn’t know—except for a handful of trusted allies—was that Alpha Alexander Kingston was not truly paralyzed. When the accident was reported, he was supposedly in that car, on his way to his tailor for a final fitting. But in reality, he was already running late for the event, so he had sent his driver to pick up the suit instead.

Though Alexander wasn’t even in the vehicle, the news of his severe injuries spread like wildfire.

It hadn’t taken him long to unravel the harsh truth behind the incident—an unsettling and devastating realization: the car accident had been deliberately orchestrated.

This meant, without a doubt, that someone had targeted him. Naturally, Alexander had a list of usual suspects. Most people were aware of the Alpha King’s deep-seated wariness and hostility toward Alexander’s rapidly expanding pack. It made sense that the King would want to suppress Alexander’s rise to power by any means necessary.

He just needed enough time to conduct a thorough investigation, to uncover the truth. Once the culprit was exposed, he intended to drag them into the light and punish them with the severity they deserved.

At the same time, Alexander understood the Alpha King’s motives for insisting on arranging a Luna for him. A new Luna would serve as a distraction and potentially a spy within his household.

He knew rejecting the King’s offer outright would be seen as disrespectful—and this was certainly not the moment to challenge the Alpha King’s authority.

Yes, there would be time to plan that confrontation carefully in the future…

For now, his immediate concern was the new Luna the Alpha King had conveniently chosen for him. Despite the intense interrogation he had put Evelyn through, Alexander still wasn’t sure how to truly feel about her. He worried that she might be a spy, poised to sabotage all his plans before they could come to fruition.
