Every camera in the room locked onto Nathan like sharks scenting blood.
His face went ghost–white.
Beside him, Aubrey and Richard froze as well–whatever smug pride they’d worn seconds ago wiped clean off their faces.
They clearly hadn’t expected me to hit them here, now, in the middle of their little victory parade.
Nathan, to his credit, recovered quickly. A man used to high–stakes stages, he didn’t break for long
He straightened, forced a smile, and turned toward the cameras with all the polished composure of a seasoned scientist
“Rowan,” he said, voice calm and smooth, “I know you’re still upset about everything that happened. But this isn’t the
time to let emotion cloud the incredible progress we’ve made. What happened wasn’t sabotage. It was a scientific
breakthrough.”
I’ll admit it–the standard remote system you designed was locked down, yes.”
“But,” he added with a subtle shift in tone, eyes gleaming like he had some ace up his sleeve. “I was able to utilize the
backup quantum entanglement comms module. I bypassed your physical lockout and wrote an emergency protocol
from scratch. It worked.”
“It was a miracle–an extraordinary achievement that no one could’ve predicted. A beautiful accident, really.”
His voice was laced with so much technical jargon that the average person wouldn’t know up from down. And yet, it
sounded… airtight. Unassailable. Genius, even.
The reporters nodded slowly, visibly impressed. Some even started clapping
In the livestream feed, the comments exploded-
“I knew it! No way a guy like Nathan would lie!”
“Quantum what–now? Damn, that’s next–level!”
“Rowan’s just jealous Her husband pulls off the impossible and she can’t stand it‘
Richard jumped on the momentum immediately. He jabbed a finger in my direction and reared across the room
“You hear that? You ungrateful disgrace!
“Nathan put his career and reputation on the line to save your slater! He used bleeding edge tech and pulled off
miracle–and this is how you repay him? With accusations and theatrics?*
“Security! Where the hell is security? Get this lunatic out of here before she ruins everything“”

I stared at the three of them–so perfectly in sync, playing their roles like pros.
The noble father. The victimized sister. The brilliant husband.
And every word out of their mouths? A damn lie.
I let out a soft, dry laugh.
Then I pulled something from my pocket.
A printed copy of my latest paper–one that had been published in a top–tier international scientific journal.
“Oh, sure. Quantum entanglement communication is real,” I said, holding the document up to the cameras.
“But it comes with a fatal flaw.”
