Chapter 17 Under His Care

In Julia’s eyes, she was kind and righteous, while Larissa was vicious. She was outstanding, while Larissa was nothing more than a useless girl who had only finished elementary school.
Anyone with a brain would know whose words to believe.
The moment Larissa saw Julia step forward, her face turned unusually pale.
Her fists clenched tightly, her entire body tense.
She thought she didn’t care anymore.
But the truth was, she was still afraid. Afraid that the Sowles would be just like the Turners, believing Julia without question and standing firmly on her side.
Afraid that Julia would steal her new family the same way she had taken everything else.
No one knew how terrified she felt at that moment.
Seeing Larissa’s expression, Nelson gently took her hand, silently comforting her.
“Who do you think you are, telling me how to handle things?” Nelson sneered. “Harry, if you don’t apologize, be ready to deal with the consequences.”
Harry’s legs went weak. He knew exactly how powerful the Sowles was. Gritting his teeth, he said unwillingly, “I’m sorry.”
Chloe followed up with an apology as well, her expression dark.
Larissa felt a mix of emotions surge through her. She finally let out a heavy breath. Nelson had come to stand up for her.
Seeing her plan fail, Julia burned with hatred.
Nelson nodded in satisfaction and looked at Larissa. “If anyone bullies you again, tell me. I’ve got your back.”
Larissa’s eyes turned red as she nodded softly.
Seeing this, Tom quickly stepped in to smooth things over. “Since the matter is resolved, everyone should return to their classes.”
The crowd gradually dispersed, and the storm temporarily settled.
On the way back, just after Larissa got into the car, Nelson handed her a cake.
“Are you hungry? I bought this strawberry cake just for you. Have a bite first. Mom already made dinner at
home.”
Larissa accepted the cake awkwardly. “This is for me?”

Chapter 17 Under His Care
For two lifetimes, ever since she was 10 years old, she had never eaten cake.
No one bought her cakes. No one remembered her birthday.
From the moment Julia appeared in her life, everything about her had been ignored.
This was the first time someone had bought a cake just for her.

“Yeah, I heard from my buddies that girls usually like sweet strawberry cake. Do you like strawberry? If not, tell me what flavor you like and I’ll get it next time. You had a full day of classes. You must be hungry. You’re still growing, and you’re so thin. You’re probably starving yourself. As long as I’m here, I’ll make sure you eat well and put on some weight,” Nelson said.
Larissa looked at Nelson with complicated emotions. So this was what it felt like to be cherished.
Choosing to return to the Sowles seemed like the right decision after all.
“Thank you, Nelson.”
If he hadn’t been driving, Nelson would have jumped up in excitement.
“Larissa, you finally acknowledged me. I’m so happy. If there’s anything else you like to eat, tell me. From now on, I’m covering all your snacks.”
He was the first family member Larissa had acknowledged.
No one could understand how excited he felt.
