Chapter 187 Shadows in Smeana
Larissa lifted the long whip in her hand and gave it a sharp snap in the air as a warning.
Finished
She could have ended someone’s life with a single needle, quietly and leaving no trace behind. But this was Smeana. She knew better than to go too far.
The worst part was not these thugs. It was the person behind them.
Who wants me dead?
She had no enemies in Marcrest. No one there even knew her real identity.
Who would send a bunch of fools to kill me?
Then she remembered Julia. The way Julia had looked at her before–cold and full of hate.
Could it be her?
Those thugs couldn’t endure the torment. They finally gave in.
“Richard Cox!” one of them shouted. “He works for Wilmot Benette. The whole underground loan business in Marcrest belongs to Mr. Benette.”
He looked at her with fear in his eyes. “We told you everything. Can you let us go now?”
Larissa slowly lowered her whip. At that moment, police sirens grew louder in the distance.
The men’s faces turned pale. “You said you’d let us go! What is this?”
Larissa smiled. She looked innocent and calm.
“I said I’d let you go,” she explained kindly. “I never said I wouldn’t hand you over to the police.”
She tilted her head slightly.
“You’ve done this kind of thing before, haven’t you? If you break the law, you face the consequences. I’m a law–abiding citizen.”
When the police arrived, they took all the thugs away.
They looked at the group of large, strong men, beaten badly. Then they looked at the thin teenage girl standing alone in front of them.
Is this her doing?
It didn’t seem possible.
Even trained officers might struggle against that many men and walk away without a scratch.
Only someone highly skilled in combat could do that.

But the girl in front of them looked like a minor. She was small and slim. There was no way she could have taken them down by herself.
Someone must have helped her from the shadows. Someone who didn’t want trouble and left quietly.
That had to be it.
Even though Larissa kept saying during her statement that she had done it alone, no one believed her.
In the end, she stopped insisting.
“Officer,” she added before finishing, “these men have done many bad things before. And they have someone backing them. Please investigate carefully.”
“We will,” the officer promised. “We won’t let a single criminal.walk free. It’s late. You should head home.”
Jimmy didn’t look at her until she got into the car. Then he turned, eyes wide with shock.
“Ms. Larissa, I had no idea you were this strong,” he said, still excited. “You took down that whole group by yourself. That’s incredible. And you sent those creeps straight to jail. Your combat skill is off the charts. You had cleaned the streets tonight. A real hero for the people.”
He was so fired up he could hardly sit still.
Larissa said nothing.
Crap! I had accidentally revealed my true strength.
“Jimmy,” she said quietly, “can you keep what happened today a secret? I don’t want my family to worry.”
