Chapter 232 A Night Too Close

On the way home, Thea kept sneaking glances at Carter. She was so nervous her palms were sweaty.
All of a sudden, a small kitten ran across the road. Carter slammed on the brakes. Thea’s body jerked forward, but luckily she was wearing her seat belt.
Carter reacted at once. He raised his arm and blocked her, shielding her with his body.
“Are you okay?” he asked. His voice was low and gentle.
“I–I’m fine.” Thea’s cheeks turned red. Her heart was pounding.
After Carter recovered, he restarted the car.
The air inside felt different now. Awkward. Quiet. Thea never thought she would feel this shy.
She liked him. But she didn’t dare say it.
He was her boss’s brother. She couldn’t just make a move. She would wait.
When he liked her back, she’d make her move.
Following the address she gave, the car stopped in front of a large luxury house.
“Carter, I’m home. Thanks for driving me back. Do you want to come in for a bit? I live alone.”
She said it with a red face.
“N–no, that’s okay.”
Carter’s face turned red instantly.
They had only met today. Even though she kept calling him as a brother, he was still a grown man.
She was so beautiful. And she never raised her guard up against him.
Thea sighed softly. “Alright then. You can take the car home. Drive safe.”
She opened the door and got out.
Thea waved at Carter and walked toward the villa.
Suddenly, a man grabbed her wrist. “Why are you out so late? Where did you go? Who was that in the car?”
Thea jumped in shock. She looked up and saw it was the blind date her family had set her up with.
She frowned. Then an idea flashed in her mind. Maybe this could bring her closer to Carter. She pretended that man was bullying her. Thea struggled and said in a trembling voice, “Let go of me. Let go.”
The man refused. He glared fiercely at Carter in the car.

Carter saw what was happening. He got out of the car immediately and walked over. He stepped in front of Thea and shielded her behind him.
“Show some respect,” Carter said coldly. “Can’t you see she doesn’t want this?”
The man felt a little intimidated by Carter’s strong presence. Still, he forced himself to talk big.
“She’s my fiancée. Stay out of it.”
Thea almost punched him when she heard that. If Thea didn’t care about her image, she would have punched him.
“Who’s your fiancée? I never agreed to marry you.”
“Are you hurt?” Carter asked, glancing at her before looking back at the man. “If she said no, then back off.”
The man grew angry at this. He suddenly threw a punch at Carter. Carter dodged easily. He grabbed the man’s arm and twisted it hard. The man screamed in pain.
“If you try anything again, I won’t go easy on you,” Carter warned coldly.
Since he couldn’t win, the man glared at them and backed away.
