Chapter 271 A Trap in the Dark
When no one was around, Julia quietly made another call to Wilmot.
After she hung up, her eyes filled with cold hatred.
Larissa, you would die this time.
Let’s see how you survive this.
Larissa sneezed several times in a row. She rubbed her nose and frowned.
“Is someone cursing me?”
After leaving school, Larissa did not go home. Instead, she drove straight to the state prison.
If she had guessed right, Wilmot had already been released.
And she wanted to know exactly how a man with such serious crimes could walk free so easily.
Larissa walked into the prison and headed straight for the warden’s office.
She sat down and began checking the inmate release records.
Wilmot had been locked up for three days before being released. Larissa’s eyes turned cold.
“Bring me the person in charge,” she said calmly.

The guard noticed the SWAT badge she flashed. His face changed at once, and he hurried away to call
someone.
The prison warden arrived a moment later. At first, he did not take Larissa seriously. To him, she looked like nothing more than a teenager.
And yet she was sitting in his chair. This girl clearly had a death wish.
“Miss,” the warden said coldly, “this isn’t a place for games. Leave now, and I’ll pretend nothing happened.
He didn’t know who she really was, so he tried to handle the situation calmly.
Larissa let out a soft, mocking laugh. She slammed the SWAT badge on the table.
“I’m here to investigate Wilmot Benette’s release,” she said. “You’re the one in charge here. So tell m did a dangerous criminal walk free after only three days?”
The moment the warden saw the badge, his face turned pale. His legs gave out and trembled all over.
Who would have guessed that General Vixen would be this young?
ठ
She commanded the entire Northreach region. Compared to her, he was nothing.
“G–General, please spare me!” the warden cried. Sweat poured down his forehead. “Someone higher up

pressured us. I had no choice!”
Larissa frowned deeply, anger rising in her chest.

“Higher up?” she said sharply. “Who has enough power to release a major criminal in three days?”
The warden hesitated for a moment. Finally, he gritted his teeth and spoke. “It was… Director Burke.”
“Director Burke?” Larissa repeated. Her brows tightened. “What connection does Arnold Burke have with Wilmot? Why would he take such a risk to release him?”
She couldn’t understand the link between them.
“Bring me all the documents and records from that day.” Larissa ordered coldly.
The warden rushed to fetch the files.
Larissa read through them carefully. After a moment, she understood the situation.
Without hesitation, she made a call to a mysterious number.
“Remove Director Burke from his position immediately,” she said calmly. “And launch a full search for Wilmot. Bring him back into custody.”
Then she ended the call. Her eyes were steady and sharp.
The Bennetts were clearly not simple.
They had influence both in public and in the shadows. Their power was far greater than most people realized.
If she wanted to destroy them, she would have to prepare carefully.
Today’s move was only the first small step.
Just a little interest on the debt they owed her.
On her way home from the prison, Larissa suddenly sensed something strange. Someone was following
her.
