The Wife he threw Away (Claire and Lucian) novel Chapter 101

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND ONE LUCIAN’S POV

Everything happened too fast-and not fast enough.

The sound came second, but the impact seemed to come first. 1

One moment, there movement, voices, light music.

The next-glass and metal.

A violent collapse of something that was never supposed to fall.

And I was already moving before anyone else could think.

I didn’t remember deciding to. Didn’t remember thinking.

But I saw her. Claire. Too close, too exposed.

Exactly where she shouldn’t have been.

And that’s when my legs decided to move on their own.

“Claire-!”

I reached her in two strides.

My hands grabbed her arms and I shoved her sideways at once- harder than I meant to.

And then-

Impact.

Something struck- shattered. Exploded around us.

The force knocked her back, and knocked me off balance-

The world tilted, and then- silence.

Not real silence of course. But this was the kind of silence that drowns everything else out.

My vision sharpened- focused on Claire.

She was on the ground, still, almost lifeless.

“Claire.” I choked out.

And the. I was beside her before the name finished leaving my mouth.

I dropped to my knees then, and ignored everything else.

“Claire.”

No response.

My hand went to her face.

Light.

Careful.

Warm.

My fingers slid to her neck-

Pulse.

There.

Steady.

I exhaled-once.

Short.

Controlled.

“She was breathing.”

But her eyes didn’t open.

A thin line of red traced down from her temple.

Not heavy.

Not catastrophic.

But enough.

Too much.

Something tightened in my chest.

Sharp.

Unwelcome.

I shifted, pulling her slightly toward me, lifting her just enough to keep her from the scattered debris.

And for a moment-

Just one-

Everything else disappeared.

She looked…

Wrong.

CONERINDRETY AND ONE TICIANS POV

Too still.

Too quiet.

Claire had never been quiet.

Not like this.

Her face-usually composed, guarded, sharp with thought-

Was unguarded now.

Vulnerable.

There was no resistance.

No distance.

No control.

Just-

Her.

And something about that-

Something about seeing her like this, in the middle of chaos-

Felt-

Wrong.

No.

Not wrong.

Terrifying.

“Lucian.”

The voice came from somewhere behind me.

Distant.

Irrelevant.

“Lucian-she needs-”

“I know.”

My voice was steady.

Even.

ANNORED AND ONE UKIANS POV

Controlled.

It didn’t match the way my grip tightened slightly around her.

Footsteps approached quickly.

Another presence beside me.

Nathaniel.

I didn’t look at him.

Didn’t need to.

“I’ve got her,” I said before he could speak.

A beat.

Tension.

Then-

“Move,” he said, sharp.

I didn’t.

“She’s unconscious,” he added, like I hadn’t noticed.

My jaw tightened.

“I said I’ve got her.”

That was enough.

For now.

More voices.

More movement.

Margot appeared seconds later-composed, but not untouched.

Her gaze moved quickly-taking in the scene, the damage, Claire-

“Call emergency services,” she said immediately. “Now.”

“They’re already on the way,” someone replied.

Good.

My focus never left Claire.

A hand hovered near her head-mine-checking again for anything worse.

MENORES AND ONE LUCIANS POV

There was blood.

But not enough.

Not catastrophic.

Still-

Her eyes stayed closed.

“Sir-”

I ignored it.

“Sir, you’re bleeding.”

That got my attention.

Not because of the pain.

There wasn’t any.

Because of the insistence.

I glanced down.

My sleeve was torn.

Darkened.

A thin line of blood ran from my forearm, cutting through fabric and skin.

I hadn’t noticed.

“It’s nothing,” I said flatly.

“It’s not nothing-” my assistant started.

“It is.”

My gaze returned to Claire.

Nothing else mattered.

Nothing.

Movement at the edge of my vision.

Eva.

She approached with just enough urgency.

Just enough concern.

“Lucian-what happened? Is she-”

I looked at her.

Really looked.

And for the briefest second-

Something flickered.

Too quick.

Too controlled.

Gone just as fast.

Concern replaced it.

Perfectly.

I held her gaze for a moment longer than necessary.

Then-

I looked away.

Not now.

Paramedics arrived moments later, fast and efficient.
