The Wife he threw Away (Claire and Lucian) novel Chapter 102

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWO LUCIAN’S POV

The sirens cut through the night like a blade.

Blaring, sharp and relentless.

I followed them in my car, close enough to see the back doors of the ambulance. But not close enough to make them go faster.

Every second felt like minutes. Every red light was ignored. Every turn felt too slow.

“She should have been safe.”

The thought kept repeating in my head. Because she should have!

That was her home once too.

By the time we reached the hospital, they were already moving her inside.

I was out of the car before the engine fully stopped, and rushing toward my w- Claire. Rushing towards

Claire.

“Sir-”

Security stepped forward automatically, then stopped the instant they recognized me.

“Mr. Dhark.”

Their tone shifted. Respect. Urgency. Deference.

“Clear the hallway,” I instructed.

No hesitation.

“Yes, sir.”

Doors opened, staff moved, the path cleared.

I walked in like I owned the building. And of course no one tried to stop me.

And behind me? Noise. Shouting. Cameras.

The press had already arrived.

Of course they had.

“Mr. Dhark! What happened at the event-”

“Is your ex-wife injured-”

“Was it an accident-”

I didn’t slow or even stop to glance at them. And I definitely didn’t acknowledge a single word they said.

Because none of it mattered now. Only Claire.

The hospital doors shut behind me once I was inside, and security moved quickly to hold the line.

The chaos inside was… controlled. Doctors, nurses… movement.

“Where is she?” I asked.

A nurse turned immediately.

“Trauma room three.” She answered, and I started waking before she even finished. “She’s being assessed-”

I didn’t need the explanation.

I reached the door just as they pushed her inside.

For a moment- just one very small moment, I saw her again.

Her eyes were closed, her dark hair tangled, there was a noticeable cut just above her left eyebrow.

In all the years we were married, she had never sustained such a large cut!

What scared me the most was how still her whole body was- unmoving.

Then the doors closed then, and I just stood there, waiting.

Not pacing, not restless, just still.

Controlled- on the outside.

But inside? Something was constricting in my chest.

My memories of my mother and her last days in the hospital, suffering and… slowly passing, were trying to make their way to the surface.

It made breathing seem like a task for me, as I tried to push the memories aside. If this were anybody else in that room, I would have simply left- that was the best way to stop the memories from rushing in.

But this is Claire who’s in danger. I couldn’t simply just… leave.

Then I heard footsteps approaching.

I didn’t need to turn.

Nathaniel Vale stopped beside me.

Not too close, not too distant either. But present.

“She’ll be fine,” he said.

Was he trying to reassure me, or himself? Either ways, I didn’t respond.

Not because I disagreed, but because I didn’t care for assumptions.

A beat passed before Nathaniel spoke.

“You should step back.” He said.

I turned slightly to look at him.

“You,” I emphasized. “Should leave.”

My tone was flat. It wasn’t a suggestion.

Nathaniel’s jaw tightened. “She’s not your responsibility anymore.”

Ha! There it was.

I held his gaze, unmoved. Because whether we were still married or not did not matter. Claire would always be my responsibility.

“That’s not your decision to make.”

The tension in the air thickened.

People noticed-doctors passing slowed, just slightly. Nurses pretended not to look.

But they did.

Nathaniel took a step closer to me.

“She’s no longer your wife.”

I didn’t blink. That wasn’t news.

“And yet,” I said evenly, “I’m still here.”

Before he could respond-

“Enough.”

Margot Sinclair’s voice cut cleanly through the space.

She stepped between us without hesitation, composed but obviously unimpressed. Displeased.

“If either of you plans to turn this into a spectacle,” she said coolly, “you’ll be leaving.”

Silence followed. Nathaniel and me stared each other down, but didn’t say a single word after Margot’s thinly veiled threat.

We both knew she meant every word she said.

Margot turned to the nearest doctor. “I’m Margot Sinclair,” she introduced. “Claire is my employee. She

was present tonight as a representative of Sinclair & Co.”

Her tone didn’t rise or soften, but it commanded respect No doubt she’s a legendary lawyer. “I’ll be handling all communication regarding her condition

The doctor nodded quickly “Of course

Margot didn’t look back at either of us, but the message was clear

This wasn’t about us – it was about Claire

And she wouldn’t let us get in the way

“Sir-” my assistant called

I ignored it.

“Sir, you’re bleeding”

I glanced down at my sleeve, which was soaked through Dark blood

The cut was deeper than I’d registered But I hadn’t even felt it

“I’m fine.”

“You’re not,” my assistant replied carefully, trying to find the balance between respect and insistence You need stitches

I looked back at the closed doors

Claire hadn’t opened her eyes.

The thought landed again- cold, and harder this time

“Sir-

I exhaled once. “Fine.”

I settled on a chair reluctantly, and a nurse began cleaning the wound.

I felt the sting. But it wasn’t irrelevant.

Nothing mattered at that point, not compared to—

I cut the thought off.

The nurse worked quickly and efficiently.

“Deep laceration,” she murmured. “You’re lucky.”

Lucky wasn’t the word I would have used.

I didn’t respond.

My assistant stepped closer, lowering her voice.

“Sir… media coverage is already everywhere.”

Of course it was.

“The event is trending. Every major outlet has picked it up.”

I still said nothing, letting her continue.

“Dhark Holdings’ stock-” she hesitated slightly. “It’s rising.”

That got my attention.

“Up?” I asked like I hadn’t heard her the first time.

“Yes, sir.”

Of course.

A crisis brought public attention… speculation.

The market didn’t care about intent. It only cared about perception.
