CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND THREE LUCIAN’S POV
I rose to my feet at once, and so did Nathaniel.
Margot remained still, but her gaze sharpened, as if she was warning the both of us to behave.
The doctor exhaled. “She’s stable.”
The words landed, clear and final.
The relief that washed over me after hearing those words… it was impossible to describe.
I’m my experience, good news never came from hospitals.
So of course it wasn’t enough.
The doctor adjusted his glasses slightly, glancing between us before continuing.
“She sustained a head injury,” he revealed. “And multiple superficial cuts from the glass.”
My jaw tightened.
“She hasn’t regained consciousness yet,” he added. “So we will need to monitor her closely.”
A pause. “She needs rest.” He concluded.
Rest. That was easy.
I held the doctor’s gaze.
“You’ll assign your best team,” I said.
It was not a request.
The doctor straightened immediately.
“Of course, Mr. Dhark.”
Good.
I turned slightly toward the glass panel.
Claire lay inside there, still and unmoving.
She was still out.
That wasn’t good enough.
Footsteps echoed behind me, measured and confident.
Margot Sinclair.
She stepped forward without hesitation, her presence cutting cleanly through the tension.

“I’ll take it from here,” she said to the doctor calmly.
The doctor nodded again, almost instinctively. “Of course.” He smiled and walked away.
Then I noticed movement at the edge of my vision.
Eva.
She was still there, watching.
And the moment Margot noticed her- something shifted.
A frown too over Margot’s face.
“You shouldn’t be here.” Margot looked furious, but her tone was calm.
She had an awful sense of control, I had to give her credit for that.
Eva smiled faintly.
“And yet,” she said softly, “I am.”
Margot stepped closer, and suddenly, the air seemed to tighten.
“You’ve done enough damage in her life.” Margot stated, disgust evident in her tone. “Or do you only specialize in ruining people quietly?”
Silence followed.
Eva’s expression didn’t crack- not fully. But I saw something flicker. It was sharp and brief, gone just as quickly. But I could tell that Margot’s words meant something.
“Careful,” Eva replied lightly. “You’re starting to sound obsessed.”
They weren’t arguing like strangers. That much was clear.
But how exactly did they know each other? The two women were icons in very different industries- Hollywood vs Legislation.
I watched them closely, trying to figure out what they had in common.
Every word, every look… there was history here.
And neither of them was going to explain it. At least not yet. Not while they were going back and forth like this.
“Enough.”
My voice cut through the tension.
Both of them stilled.

I looked at Eva. “Leave.”
A pause.
Eva blinked once.
“You’re asking me to leave?” she asked, softer now.
“I’m telling you.” I restated. There room for interpretation.
For a moment, she didn’t move. Didnt speak.
And that hesitation mattered more than anything.
Then she exhaled lightly. Composed herself, and jutted her chin out.
She faced Margot fully again, glaring at her. “This isn’t over.”
Then to me- quieter. 1
“We’ll talk at home.”
It sounded like possession. Like control.
I didn’t respond.
She held my gaze for a second longer, then turned and walked away.
Silence settled after she left. Much needed silence.
I looked back toward the glass. Claire hadn’t moved. She still hasn’t opened her eyes.
Footsteps approached again.
It was my assistant.
“Sir,” she said quietly, “the security footage is ready.”
I didn’t turn to ask any questions.
“Staff are being questioned as instructed.”
Good.
Finally, there was movement. Progress.
But still, my gaze stayed on the room.
On her- on Claire.
Leaving didn’t feel right. But staying wouldn’t change anything either.
“You don’t know Eva Sterling.”

NYUNCHES AND THREE COCIANS POV
Margot’s voice broke through the silence.
I turned to her.
Her expression was calm.
But her eyes? Her eyes were sharper thag blades.
Sharp and certain. “Not even close.” She added.
Nathaniel shifted beside me.
“I’d like to know what that means,” he said.
“So would I.” I agreed.
It was probably the first time we were agreeing on anything since we got here.
Margot looked between us carefully.
Then- nothing.
She said nothing. Not denial, not confirmation… only restraint.
“There are things you’ll find out soon enough,” she finally said.
That wasn’t an answer.
And she knew it.
But I also knew that was the only answer I would be getting.
My gaze held hers for a moment longer.
What was she really hiding?
“Sir?” My assistant called again, appearing beside me.
Waiting.
Of course she was.
The footage, the staff, the structure. Everything that mattered now.
I looked back at the glass one last time.
Claire lay exactly where she had been. Still. Almost lifeless.
Margot spoke again.
“You won’t find the answer standing here.”
