“I want to know where our bedroom is.”
In the Dhark mansion, Lucian and I had mostly slept in different bedrooms. That would change here.
Something changed in his expression.
It was small—barely there. But I saw it.
The smile that touched his mouth wasn’t the confident, arrogant smile he wore when he was getting his way.
It was softer. Almost boyish.
“Our bedroom?” he repeated.
I narrowed my eyes. “Don’t make me regret saying it.”
“I wouldn’t dare.”
He reached for my hand. I smiled as his fingers slipped between mine, warm and familiar, and he led me toward the staircase.
I followed him upstairs.
The house felt different now.
Maybe because I had stopped looking at it as a strange house. I was starting to imagine it as ours.
The thought was terrifying, but strangely comforting.
We reached the top of the stairs, and Lucian opened the first door on the right.
“This is it.”
I stepped inside and stopped.
Although the master bedroom was enormous, it somehow didn’t feel excessive like the one in the mansion.
The room was warm, filled with natural light from the floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the garden.
There was a large bed in the center, a sitting area near the windows, and a quiet little corner that looked perfect for reading.
I walked farther inside. “Oh.”
Lucian followed behind me. “You like it?”
“I think this room is bigger than my entire apartment.”
“That sounds like a compliment.”
“It wasn’t.”
He laughed.
I turned toward the windows.
The view was stunning. There was no traffic. No city noise, no reporters—although I imagined they will make their way here with time.
But for now, it was just trees, flowers and peace. And I would enjoy it for however long it would last.
I could imagine waking up here. I could imagine Lucian beside me, I could imagine our baby crying somewhere down the hallway.
The thought made my chest ache.
I turned away before he could see too much on my face.
Then I made my way to the walk-in closet.
“Lucian?” I called.
I heard his footsteps immediately. “Yes?”
“This is ridiculous.”
He leaned against the doorway. “You have a lot of clothes.”
I turned slowly. “Most of my clothes are still at my apartment.”
“I know.”
“You know?”
“Of course.”
I crossed my arms in front of my chest. “How?”
“Because you’ve complained at least six times that you don’t have enough clothes here.”
“I have never complained six times.”
“You’re right, maybe seven.”
I laughed. “You’re ridiculous.”
“You love me.”
I looked at him.
He didn’t say it arrogantly. He said it simply, like it was a fact.
And we both knew it was.
“I do,” I admitted.
His smile softened.
I looked around the closet again. “So we’re actually moving?”
The words sounded different once I said them aloud. The Dhark mansion wasn’t just Lucian’s childhood home. It had also been my home for five years.
Lucian nodded. “Yes.”
I looked at him. “This isn’t just you showing me a house.”
“No.”
“You really bought this place for us.”
Lucian laughed. “You think this is some sort of prank?”
“And you actually expect us to live here.”
“Yes!” He laughed.
I stared at him. “You’re serious.”
“I’ve never been more serious about a house in my life.”
I shook my head, smiling despite myself. It all felt like a dream.
He sighed dramatically. “I’ve already spoken to the staff about moving some of your things from your apartment.”
My smile disappeared. “You did?”
“I haven’t let anyone touch anything important.” He stepped closer. “I told them they could begin with basic things, but nothing personal. Nothing that belongs to you without you deciding where it goes.”
I studied him for a moment.
The gesture mattered more than I wanted to admit.
Because Lucian could be controlling. He could make decisions quickly. He could move entire companies without asking anyone’s permission.
But he had thought about my belongings. He had respected my space.
“You really didn’t move anything important?”
“No.”
I smiled. “Good.”
His eyebrows lifted.
“That’s all?”
“That’s all.”
“You’re not angry?”
“No.”
I stepped closer. “I actually like that you asked.”
His expression softened. “Then we’ll do it together.”
I nodded.
‘Together.’
That word kept settling somewhere deep inside me even as I followed him out of the closet.
We walked through the rest of the house. This time, I was looking at it with a new pair of eyes. I was looking at it like it was ours.
Lucian showed me the nursery again.
I stepped inside the empty room.
It was beautiful. Quiet. The sunlight spilling through the windows added to its aesthetics.
I placed a hand over my stomach as I walked further in.
Our baby. There was a room for our baby.
The thought alone was almost too big to hold.
Lucian stood beside me.
“I thought this room would be close enough to ours.”
I glanced at him. “You’ve really thought about everything.”
“I’m trying.”
I walked towards the exit and pointed at another door. “And this one?”
He opened another door. “Could be for Camilla if she wants to stay here.”
I looked at him. “She’ll insist on coming.”
“I won’t have it any other way.”
“And she’ll complain if you give her a large room.”
Lucian rolled his eyes. Camilla could be very modest. “I know,” he said.
“And she’ll probably rearrange the kitchen.”
“I’ve accepted that.”
I laughed.
We continued down the hallway. There were several guest rooms and staff quarters. More space than I could imagine needing, but it still wasn’t as enormous as the Dhark mansion.
I looked at him suspiciously. “Are you planning to have ten children?”
His lips curved into a smile. “I’m optimistic.”
“Optimistic?” I repeated, laughing until I almost choked.
“Yes.”
“Lucian, we haven’t even had the first one.”
“I know.”
“And you’re already planning the second?”
“And the third and the fourth.” I fixed him with a glare.
Lucian raised his hands in surrender “I’m simply thinking ahead.”
“You’re insane.”
“Probably.” He reached for my hand again. “And I like the idea of our children growing up here.”
Our children—plural again.
I looked at him.
He wasn’t joking anymore. Not when I could see something something incredibly vulnerable in his expression.
Not CEO Lucian. Not the man everyone feared.
Just my Lucian.
A man who had once believed he would never have this—
Children. A family.
I squeezed his hand. “I think I’d like that too.”
His eyes softened. “I’m glad you think so.”
