But now, he was telling her he'd never even considered marrying her. "What... what did you say?" Lorie's voice trembled, tears welling in her eyes. "Alex, don't joke around. Our engagement party is almost ready..."
"The engagement party was orchestrated entirely by your family. It has nothing to do with me," Alexander stated flatly. "Lorie, you're too greedy." With that, he turned and walked toward the door, not sparing another glance at Lorie's ashen face.
Lorie watched his resolute back, and the tears finally broke free. She had always seen Alexander as her safety net, her ticket to marrying into one of the most powerful families. Now, the man himself had told her he never cared for her, never intended to marry her. In that single moment, her fantasy shattered completely.
After Alexander left, Lorie collapsed onto the sofa, tears streaming down her face like a broken string of pearls. Vincent watched his daughter's devastated state, a sense of urgency rising in him. "Alright, stop crying. He's just one man. Are you telling me the Gaylord family can't find a better match for an alliance?"
"Better?" Lorie looked up, her eyes red and swollen, her voice filled with despair. "Dad, you don't understand. I pinned all my hopes on him. Now that he doesn't want me, what am I supposed to do?" She had always believed that marrying into the Davidson family would grant her unparalleled status and wealth, a way out of her family's current predicament. But Alexander's words had been like a bucket of ice water, extinguishing all her hopes.
Just then, her phone rang. It was Harold. Lorie hesitated for a few seconds before answering. "Miss Gaylord, you don't sound very happy," Harold's gentle voice came through the receiver, carrying a subtle, probing tone.
Lorie sniffled, her voice choked with sobs. "Mr. Chapman, you were right. Alexander... he really doesn't care about me. He came to my house just now and told me explicitly that he never planned on marrying me."
"Okay, I'll be there tomorrow," Lorie agreed immediately, her voice filled with anticipation. After hanging up, a long-absent smile finally returned to Lorie's face. She wiped away her tears, her eyes now glinting with determination.
If Alexander didn't care about her, then there was no point in clinging to him. Harold's appearance had shown her a new hope. She had to seize this opportunity and fight for a better future for herself.
At that moment, Harold hung up the phone, the smile on his face slowly fading. He gazed out at the night sky, his eyes dark and inscrutable.

I hope daniele will have no end game with alexander since whatever the reason is, he only give her too much grievencess. I hope there will be another male character with stronger present than alexander to have the end game with daniele. Hated that in the name of love or protection alexander can treat another woman better, not just once, but with this new lorie girl... Oh my blood pressure getting higher cause by the new plot :(...

OMG! Chapters 451-462 had me on edge. I wish we could also read Alexander's POV. I swear I want to punch him and Millie. This story is kind of a push and pull. The main character will win some, then lose some. Hope the writer gives Danielle a big win....
