“Don’t be difficult with him. Don’t let this chance pass you by.”
Danielle stared at his focused profile, a strange and uncomfortable feeling rising in her chest, as if something was lodged in her throat, making it hard to breathe.
Was he actually trying to set her up with Gian?
That could only mean one thing: he didn’t love her at all anymore.
Only someone who had completely moved on could so calmly push her toward another man, could wish for her to marry someone else.
A surge of hurt and anger welled up inside her. Danielle’s eyes reddened, but she fought back the tears, refusing to let them fall.
She took a deep breath and lowered her gaze, hiding the storm of emotions in her eyes. Her voice was tinged with an unmistakable distance. “I can handle my own affairs. You don’t need to concern yourself, Mr. Davidson.”
The name “Mr. Davidson” was like an invisible wall, instantly creating a chasm between them.
Alexander’s hands tightened on the steering wheel, his knuckles turning white.
He could hear the coldness and displeasure in her tone, and a bitter taste filled his mouth.
Did he really want to push her toward someone else?
But compared to him, Gian was the better choice. He could offer her a life in the open, security, and a future free of worry for both her and Niki.
It was better for her to marry a man who could take proper care of her than to stay with him and live in fear.
“I just think he’s someone you can depend on,” Alexander said. “You’ve had a tough few years. You deserve someone who can cherish and protect you.”
“I’m perfectly capable of managing my own life.”
Danielle’s tone remained frigid. Unwilling to continue the conversation, she turned to stare out the window, lapsing into silence.
The city lights blurred past, flickering across her face but failing to penetrate the darkness in her eyes.
When the car finally stopped in front of her apartment building, Danielle immediately pushed the door open, muttered a “thank you,” and hurried toward the entrance.
Alexander watched her retreating back, the pain and conflict in his eyes almost spilling over.
He reached out, as if to stop her, but his hand fell limply to his side.
Slumping back into his seat, Alexander watched until the light in the building’s entrance went out before he slowly started the car and disappeared into the night.
Inside the building, Danielle leaned against the cold wall, her breathing ragged.
Her thoughts were a mess. Her heart was in turmoil.
Sometimes, this push and pull, this closeness that was never close enough, was the most agonizing torture.
The person right in front of her felt a world away, always separated by an impassable barrier.

I hope daniele will have no end game with alexander since whatever the reason is, he only give her too much grievencess. I hope there will be another male character with stronger present than alexander to have the end game with daniele. Hated that in the name of love or protection alexander can treat another woman better, not just once, but with this new lorie girl... Oh my blood pressure getting higher cause by the new plot :(...

OMG! Chapters 451-462 had me on edge. I wish we could also read Alexander's POV. I swear I want to punch him and Millie. This story is kind of a push and pull. The main character will win some, then lose some. Hope the writer gives Danielle a big win....
