He trailed off, his voice holding a rare tremor.
Danielle’s heart leaped into her throat. “What is it?” she pressed. “What did you dream about?”
Alexander looked up, his eyes shadowed with a darkness that wouldn’t lift. “I dreamed… that you were both gone.”
His voice was hoarse. “It always feels so real. So real that when I wake up, my palms are drenched in sweat.”
He remembered a recent nightmare where Danielle had been in a car crash. He had raced to the hospital in a frenzy, but no matter how hard he looked, he couldn't find her room.
When he jolted awake, the sky outside was still dark. He had immediately called her, and only after hearing her voice did the tension finally leave his body.
Danielle froze, feeling as though her blood had turned to ice.
She was living a second life. In her previous one, she and Niki had not met a peaceful end.
She had buried those painful memories deep in her heart, never daring to touch them.
She thought she was the only one who knew, yet Alexander’s dream had perfectly mirrored her deepest fears.
Did he remember something too, or was this just a coincidence?
Danielle took a deep breath, forcing herself to calm down. She picked up a glass of water from the table and took a sip. The cool liquid sliding down her throat gave her the strength to speak. “It was just a dream.”
But Alexander’s gaze was fixed on her. “Was it really just a dream?” he asked.
He had noticed that something was off.
“Niki and I are standing right here in front of you, aren’t we?” Danielle countered.
She reached out and gently patted his arm. “Don’t overthink it. You’ve just been exhausted lately. People dream about what’s on their mind.”
Alexander’s eyes fell to the back of her hand, her fingertips cool against his skin.
Alexander said nothing more.
Sometimes, dreams were omens, weren't they? Even if they hadn't happened, they could be glimpses of the future. Having the same dream over and over felt like a warning.
Alexander gently rubbed the bridge of his nose. Maybe it was his depression flaring up again, making his mind chaotic and causing the recurring nightmares. It made him feel insecure about everything.
Danielle sat quietly, watching his profile.
Suddenly, she felt that perhaps the regrets of her past life could truly be mended in this one. At least for now, they were still here, together.
The night deepened.
Alexander didn’t mention going to the office again.
He closed his tablet and stood up. “It’s getting late. You should get some rest, too.”

I hope daniele will have no end game with alexander since whatever the reason is, he only give her too much grievencess. I hope there will be another male character with stronger present than alexander to have the end game with daniele. Hated that in the name of love or protection alexander can treat another woman better, not just once, but with this new lorie girl... Oh my blood pressure getting higher cause by the new plot :(...

This is it! Revenge. Way to go Dani....
OMG! Chapters 451-462 had me on edge. I wish we could also read Alexander's POV. I swear I want to punch him and Millie. This story is kind of a push and pull. The main character will win some, then lose some. Hope the writer gives Danielle a big win....
