Danielle pursed her lips, her gaze serious. “If you’ve both thought this through, I support your decision.”
She genuinely thought that the gentle and reliable Gian and the free-spirited, perceptive Kirsten would make a great couple if they ever got together for real.
Kirsten laughed and waved her hand dismissively. “Don’t take it so seriously. We’re just helping each other dodge our families’ matchmaking efforts. It’s purely a temporary partnership.”
She took a sip of her coffee. “Once the heat is off, we’ll have a peaceful ‘breakup.’”
“Gian’s a good man,”
Danielle said. “We’ve known him for years. You and I both know what kind of person he is—stable, responsible, and an incredible friend.”
“Actually… you could seriously consider it.”
At that, Kirsten nearly choked on her coffee. She set her cup down, amused and exasperated. “Are you kidding me?”
“We’ve been fighting and making up since we were kids. We’re practically like brothers. There’s no romance there.”
In her eyes, Gian was a friend she could complain with and get into trouble with, never anything more.
Seeing her firm stance, Danielle didn’t press the issue and simply smiled. “Alright. Whether you’re serious or it’s just a temporary alliance, all that matters is that you’re both happy.”
“If you need my help with anything, just ask.”
“Don’t worry, I’m sure I’ll be bothering you plenty.”
After hanging up, Kirsten felt a sense of reassurance with Danielle’s support.
-
Gian and Kirsten had arranged to meet her parents.
Gian arrived half an hour early, parking his understated black sedan outside the gates of the Delaney family’s estate. His trunk was filled with carefully chosen gifts.
Kirsten’s heart stirred slightly, but she kept her tone teasing. “Alright, you’ve made your point.”
Carrying the gifts, they walked into the Delaney family villa together.
Kirsten’s dad and mother were already waiting in the living room. When they entered, her dad offered a polite smile, while her mother sized Gian up, her expression unreadable and her eyes scrutinizing.
“Uncle, Auntie, it’s been a while.”
Gian spoke first, his tone warm and his posture humble as he presented the gifts. “Just a small token of my esteem.”
“You shouldn’t have. Just coming is enough.”
Kirsten’s dad accepted the gifts and gestured for them to sit. “Please, sit. Have some tea.”
Her mother, however, was not so easily swayed. She picked up her teacup, took a delicate sip, and fixed her gaze on the two of them, her tone flat. “Gian, you and Kirsten grew up together. We’ve watched you grow up, and we know you’re a good kid.”

OMG! Chapters 451-462 had me on edge. I wish we could also read Alexander's POV. I swear I want to punch him and Millie. This story is kind of a push and pull. The main character will win some, then lose some. Hope the writer gives Danielle a big win....
