Gian glanced at her, his expression serious. “We’ve known each other for so many years. It’s only natural for your mother to be suspicious.”
“Perhaps I didn’t do a good enough job today,” he continued. “Maybe I failed to show her my sincerity, and that’s why she refused.”
He wasn’t one to give up easily, especially when Kirsten’s reputation and freedom were on the line.
A complex wave of emotions washed over Kirsten—gratitude, guilt, and a strange, fluttering feeling she couldn't quite name.
Watching Gian’s focused profile as he drove, she suddenly thought that this impromptu marriage alliance might not be so bad after all.
“By the way, I’m going to talk to my parents about something tonight,” Gian said abruptly, breaking the silence in the car.
Kirsten looked at him, puzzled. “About what?”
“About arranging a meeting with your family for a formal proposal and engagement.”
Gian’s tone was perfectly calm.
Kirsten was completely stunned. She opened her mouth, but no words came out for a long moment. “Are… are you serious?” she finally managed. “Didn’t we agree this was just a way for us to get some peace? Why a real proposal and engagement?”
Gian turned to look at her, a profound look in his eyes. “Even if your mother suspects this is just a mutual escape for us, she won’t truly oppose the marriage alliance.”
He paused before continuing, “A union between the Delaney and Atwood families would benefit both our businesses, creating a stable chain of mutual interests. That’s what your mother values most.”
“I… I need some time to think about this,” Kirsten said, her voice hesitant. “It’s all so sudden. I’m not ready.”
“Alright, I’ll give you time,” Gian replied gently, not pushing her. “Don’t feel pressured. Whatever you decide, I’ll support you.”
The car pulled away from the Delaney family’s neighborhood, and silence once again filled the cabin. Kirsten leaned back against her seat, watching the streetlights blur past the window, her thoughts a tangled mess.
Gian’s sincerity and thoroughness had caught her off guard. He had not only prepared thoughtful gifts but was also planning a formal proposal and was even willing to discuss it with his own parents for her sake.
In that moment, she suddenly wondered if she was being too selfish, using Gian as a shield against her mother’s pressure while completely ignoring his feelings and efforts.

Although she was one of the protagonist (and best friend of Danielle), I'm really annoyed with Kristen. What does she actually want? She wants to be completely free from Gian, whatever their business is. But when Gian doesn't care about her, she gets annoyed and overthinks. Hey, Kristen, the world doesn't revolve around you. You may follow your own feelings, but that doesn't mean you can ignore other people's feelings at all!...
It seems like this novel will end at chapter 5000. Every time one issue ends, another one pops up, and it seems like the author is just trying to drag it out. I'm starting to get tired of reading it....
I hope daniele will have no end game with alexander since whatever the reason is, he only give her too much grievencess. I hope there will be another male character with stronger present than alexander to have the end game with daniele. Hated that in the name of love or protection alexander can treat another woman better, not just once, but with this new lorie girl... Oh my blood pressure getting higher cause by the new plot :(...
