Danielle spoke as she ate a custard bun.
Alexander smiled faintly. “That’s true. It’s tough being a kid.” He opened the car door. “Get in, we don’t want to be late.”
Danielle nodded and slid into the passenger seat.
The car pulled smoothly away from the curb. Alexander’s expression was as composed as ever as he focused on driving, saying little, but Danielle could feel that something between them was quietly shifting.
Before, there had always been an invisible barrier between them. Even when they were together, they lacked this kind of natural ease. Now, a simple greeting and a warm breakfast made her feel remarkably secure.

The car soon arrived at the conference center at the city’s tech park. From a distance, the building looked stately and impressive, its entrance already lined with an array of luxury cars. Most of the people coming and going were in formal attire, their expressions serious, clearly important figures in the industry.
Alexander parked the car, and they got out together. Just as they reached the entrance, Danielle spotted two familiar figures—Kirsten and Gian were standing near the lobby doors, talking. They waved as soon as they saw them.
“There you are! Any later and they’d be closing the doors,” Kirsten said with a grin, looking Danielle up and down. “You look amazing today. So powerful.”
“You too,” Danielle replied with a smile, her gaze shifting to Gian beside her. “Gian.”
“Danielle.” Gian offered a warm smile, his eyes glancing between Danielle and Alexander for a moment before he said nothing more.
The four of them walked into the venue together, immediately drawing a number of stares. Most of the people present were industry titans and government officials, all of them well-informed.
