“Don’t talk anymore,” Danielle said, looking at Alexander. “Just rest. Save your strength.”
Alexander’s dark eyes were fixed on her face. In the dim light, her eyes were bloodshot, with faint dark circles beneath them. It was clear she had exhausted herself watching over him for the past few days.
His throat moved as he swallowed, wanting to say something. In the end, he just nodded slightly and rasped, “Okay.”
But his heart felt like it was overflowing with a hundred different emotions—sour, bitter, painful, and a flicker of warmth he couldn't quite name.
After sitting for a moment longer, Danielle still couldn’t relax. She stood up, gently tucked the blanket around him, and walked out of the room.
The hallway was silent, lit only by the faint glow of the emergency lights. She knocked on the doors of the adjacent rooms, asking if anyone had cough medicine or throat lozenges. Most of the research team members were Alexander’s subordinates, and seeing her distress, they understood the situation. They all began rummaging through their luggage.
Soon, Danielle held several blister packs of different cough medicines and two boxes of throat lozenges. She thanked them and hurried back to the room. She poured a glass of warm water and held a tablet to Alexander’s lips. “Take this. It might help a little.”
Alexander knew that this kind of medicine was useless for his condition, but he tilted his head back and swallowed the pill, then popped a lozenge into his mouth. The sweet mint flavor filled his mouth, but it couldn't mask the metallic taste in his throat.
As the night deepened, the room grew quiet, filled only with the sound of their soft breathing. Alexander’s condition hadn’t improved; he still let out muffled coughs from time to time, each one sending a jolt of pain through his chest and bringing a sheen of cold sweat to his forehead.
Danielle stayed by his side without moving, wiping his sweat and adjusting his blanket, her gaze never leaving him. She didn't dare close her eyes, afraid she might miss something if she did.
Alexander watched her stubborn vigil. He laboriously lifted his arm. “I’m fine… you should go get some rest. I’ll be okay here.”

I hope daniele will have no end game with alexander since whatever the reason is, he only give her too much grievencess. I hope there will be another male character with stronger present than alexander to have the end game with daniele. Hated that in the name of love or protection alexander can treat another woman better, not just once, but with this new lorie girl... Oh my blood pressure getting higher cause by the new plot :(...

OMG! Chapters 451-462 had me on edge. I wish we could also read Alexander's POV. I swear I want to punch him and Millie. This story is kind of a push and pull. The main character will win some, then lose some. Hope the writer gives Danielle a big win....
