The door clicked shut, sealing out the warmth of the room and taking all of Danielle’s sense of security with it. She sat frozen in her chair, staring at the door while the sound of the howling wind and snow filled her ears.
One minute, two minutes, ten… The time ticked by, but Alexander didn't return. A heavy dread settled in Danielle’s stomach, and she couldn't sit still any longer. Grabbing a jacket, she rushed to the door and pulled it open, only to be hit by a blast of frigid air that made her cough.
The night was as black as ink, but the snow-covered ground reflected a ghostly light. Danielle squinted into the distance and froze. A group of figures was moving steadily toward the research station, their steps deliberate. They were clearly prepared.
It wasn't an animal. They were coming for them.
Danielle’s heart leaped into her throat as a chill shot up from her feet to the crown of her head. She took a deep breath, about to turn and lock the door, when a hand suddenly clamped around her wrist. She spun around and found herself staring into Alexander's deep, dark eyes.
He had appeared behind her, his face grimmer than the night itself. His hand was ice-cold but his grip was astonishingly strong. “Don’t panic,” Alexander said, his voice a low whisper. “They’re here for us. Follow me, we need to get our gear. We have to leave, now.”
Seeing the gravity in his eyes, Danielle understood immediately. These people were connected to the missing chip. She nodded, and Alexander pulled her back inside.
The warm, yellow lights were still on, and the food on the table was still steaming, but neither of them had any appetite left. Alexander dragged her straight to the bedroom and pulled a pre-packed go-bag from under the bed. It contained protein bars, water, a first-aid kit, and most importantly—a satellite phone and a GPS locator.

I hope daniele will have no end game with alexander since whatever the reason is, he only give her too much grievencess. I hope there will be another male character with stronger present than alexander to have the end game with daniele. OMG! Chapters 451-462 had me on edge. I wish we could also read Alexander's POV. I swear I want to punch him and Millie. This story is kind of a push and pull. The main character will win some, then lose some. Hope the writer gives Danielle a big win....
