“There’s no time!” Alexander gritted his teeth, grabbing her hand again with a force that felt like it could shatter bone. “Do as I say. Run for the crevasse. I’ll lead them away. Remember, you have to live. You have to get the message out.”
With a final, desperate push, he shoved Danielle toward the side path. “Run!” he roared, the sound echoing in her ears.
She stumbled back a few steps, watching as he turned and ran in the opposite direction. His figure grew smaller and smaller in the blizzard, but his back remained straight.
“Alexander!” Danielle screamed, her voice swallowed by the storm. Tears blurred her vision as she saw the flashlight beams converge and follow Alexander, the shouts fading into the distance.
Danielle stood frozen, shaking uncontrollably as tears and snow mixed on her face, the cold biting her skin. She knew she couldn’t fail him.
Taking a deep, shuddering breath, she wiped her eyes and turned, breaking into a run toward the crevasse. The wind drove shards of ice into her face, the pain sharp and piercing.
She hadn’t gone far when she skidded to a halt. The snowmobile!
There was still a snowmobile back at the station. Alexander had already drawn them away. If she could get back, get the machine, maybe she could break through and get him out. It was their only chance.
She clenched her jaw, spun around, and ran back the way she came, headlong into the biting wind. The snow was knee-deep, each step a heavy, leaden struggle. The blizzard obscured her vision, but she navigated by memory.
Finally, the dark outline of the research station appeared. Holding her breath, Danielle crept along the wall, scanning the area. Seeing no one left behind, she darted into the garage and ripped the tarp off the snowmobile.
The wind whipped her hair back, her eyes blazed with astonishing fire. She thrust out her hand and screamed, “Alexander, get on!”
Alexander grabbed her hand and vaulted onto the machine in one swift, fluid motion. The men, recovering from their shock, lunged forward.
“Hold on!” Danielle yelled, pulling a sharp turn that sent them rocketing out of the circle.
The leader’s face contorted with rage. “That bitch!” he snarled. “Get them! They don't leave here alive today!”

Although she was one of the protagonist (and best friend of Danielle), I'm really annoyed with Kristen. What does she actually want? She wants to be completely free from Gian, whatever their business is. But when Gian doesn't care about her, she gets annoyed and overthinks. Hey, Kristen, the world doesn't revolve around you. You may follow your own feelings, but that doesn't mean you can ignore other people's feelings at all!...
It seems like this novel will end at chapter 5000. Every time one issue ends, another one pops up, and it seems like the author is just trying to drag it out. I'm starting to get tired of reading it....
I hope daniele will have no end game with alexander since whatever the reason is, he only give her too much grievencess. I hope there will be another male character with stronger present than alexander to have the end game with daniele. Hated that in the name of love or protection alexander can treat another woman better, not just once, but with this new lorie girl... Oh my blood pressure getting higher cause by the new plot :(...
