Lorie entered with an elegant posture, her heels clicking softly on the floor. She wore a tailored white dress that made her skin look as white as snow, but the smile on her face was unreadable. She walked to the bedside and looked down at the recumbent Alexander, her fingertips lightly tracing the cool metal of the bed rail. “Alexander,” she began, “did you ever imagine you’d see a day like this?”
Alexander’s eyes remained downcast, his long lashes casting a shadow on his cheeks. He didn't look at her or respond, treating her as if she were nothing more than air. Lorie didn't seem to mind his coldness. She pulled a chair over, leaned forward slightly, and spoke with years of repressed resentment in her voice. “Back when you were so meticulously plotting against me, faking our engagement just to use my family’s influence to pave your own way—did you ever think you’d end up like this?”
Her voice rose, a slight tremor running through it. “Have you ever regretted your decision? Did you ever, even for a moment, have any genuine feelings for me?” The questions had been like thorns in her heart for years. From the joyful anticipation of their engagement to the soul-crushing despair of discovering the truth, and now, to seeing him so broken and defeated. A torrent of emotions—hatred, resentment, and a stubborn unwillingness to let go that even she refused to admit—crashed within her.
Alexander remained unnervingly calm, his expression unchanged, as if her accusations had nothing to do with him. Seeing his indifference, Lorie’s anger flared, but she quickly forced it down. She took a deep breath, her tone softening into a self-deprecating sigh. “Actually, I pity you. And I understand. Many of us don’t have a choice when it comes to family interests versus personal feelings. I’m no different.” She paused, her gaze resting on his pale face. “But between my family and you, I could only choose one.”
Those words seemed to finally strike a nerve. He slowly lifted his gaze, his dark eyes devoid of any emotion. He looked at her calmly and uttered a few simple words. “So, you chose your family.” It wasn’t a question, but a statement. Lorie’s heart clenched, as if squeezed by an invisible hand. Staring into his indifferent eyes, she suddenly felt a wave of panic and rushed to explain, “That’s because you never chose me! We could have been a team, facing the storm together, building our foundations side-by-side! But from start to finish, the love you gave me was nothing but a calculated scheme.”
Her voice was laced with hurt and a nearly hysterical accusation. “You used my trust, my feelings, everything about the Gaylord family, all for your own ambition!” Alexander watched her emotional outburst, the corner of his mouth curling into a faint, mocking smile. He didn't argue or defend himself. Some things weren't worth discussing when the truth was already laid bare.
But Lorie seemed to be clinging to a sliver of hope. She stared into his eyes, searching for any hint of affection, even if it was feigned. “Alexander, tell me. Did you really not feel anything for me? I don’t believe it. I’m an excellent woman—my family, my looks, my abilities—how could I not compare to others? How could you not like me at all?” But Alexander just watched her silently, his indifference like a deep, bottomless pool of icy water, completely extinguishing the last flicker of hope in her heart. She knew then that she had only been deceiving herself. This man had never, not from the very beginning, given her a single shred of genuine affection.

I hope daniele will have no end game with alexander since whatever the reason is, he only give her too much grievencess. I hope there will be another male character with stronger present than alexander to have the end game with daniele. Hated that in the name of love or protection alexander can treat another woman better, not just once, but with this new lorie girl... Oh my blood pressure getting higher cause by the new plot :(...

OMG! Chapters 451-462 had me on edge. I wish we could also read Alexander's POV. I swear I want to punch him and Millie. This story is kind of a push and pull. The main character will win some, then lose some. Hope the writer gives Danielle a big win....
