Jake looked at him, a mocking smile playing on his lips. “So now you know. Harold is your brother.”
Leaning against the headboard, his face pale, Alexander felt a cold fire ignite in his eyes. Hearing Jake’s casual mention of his “brother,” he curled his lip into a chilling smile.
“Brother?” he repeated, his voice deliberate. “Even if he is my brother, he committed treason and leaked state secrets. He belongs in prison.”
As the words settled, he lowered his gaze and his fingers flew across his phone screen, sending a message to his contact at the Strategic Intelligence Agency: [Wasn’t Jake taken in for questioning? Why is he at the hospital?]
He pressed send and looked up at Jake.
Jake froze under his gaze, then took two steps forward, looming over him. “Alexander, don’t be so heartless! Have I ever mistreated you as your father? What glory of the Davidson family haven’t I given you?”
“Glory?” Alexander replied, as if he’d heard the world’s greatest joke. “What you call glory was nothing but a shackle you placed on me.”
“It was endless pressure, a complete denial of who I am.”
He pushed himself upright, his gaze as sharp as a knife, piercing straight through Jake. “Did you think I didn’t know?”
