Kirsten took a step back in disgust, avoiding her grandmother's touch.
Her voice was as sharp as broken glass. "I don't have any money."
"No money? Who are you trying to fool!" The old woman's face twisted into a sneer, and her voice rose, drawing the attention of passersby.
"You're with Mr. Atwood, how could you not have money? I'm telling you, Kirsten, if you don't give me money today, I'm not leaving! I'll make a scene right here until everyone knows what an ungrateful brat you are!"
Her shrewish display made Kirsten's face turn pale with anger.
She took a deep breath, trying to suppress her fury, but before she could retort, Gian stepped in front of her.
His expression was chilling, and his gaze, sharp as a knife, was fixed on Kirsten's grandmother.
"Ma'am, I suggest you show some self-respect." His voice was dangerously low.
"Whether Kirsten has money or not is none of your business. If you continue to cause a scene, I won't hesitate to have security remove you."
The old woman was startled by Gian's imposing aura and shrank back, but she wasn't ready to give up.
"Who do you think you are? This is between me and my granddaughter!"
"I'm her husband." Gian wrapped a protective arm around Kirsten's shoulder.
"My wife's business is my business. If you continue to make trouble, I'll have my lawyers contact you."
At those words, the color drained from the woman's face.
She knew who Gian was and what the word 'lawyers' implied.
Staring into his cold eyes, she finally lost her nerve.
She shot Kirsten a venomous glare, muttered a string of curses under her breath, and scurried away into the crowd.
As her grandmother's figure vanished, the tension in Kirsten's body finally eased.
She turned to Gian, her eyes filled with gratitude. "Thank you for today."
"It was nothing," Gian said, releasing her.
His tone reverted to its usual detached calm.
