Gian’s voice was quiet but crystal clear. “We both know what kind of people Harold and the Chapmans are. He was a pawn for foreign interests, with blood on his hands from all the things he did that harmed our country. I don’t need to spell it out for you.”
He leaned forward, his gaze sharp and fixed on Alexander’s face. “Raffy is a ticking time bomb. He’s still young now and doesn’t understand any of this, but what happens when he grows up? When he finds out the truth—that his own mother was taken down by you, that he’s living under your roof, watching you and Danielle and Niki living as a happy family? What will he think? Will he see you as the enemies who destroyed his family? Will that resentment make him a tool for those same foreign powers to exploit?”
Gian’s questions were brutally direct. “As outsiders, we don’t have the same emotional attachment to the boy, so we see things more clearly. By keeping him with you, you’re planting a landmine in your own home. When it will go off, and how, no one knows.”
Alexander set his teacup down, his fingers tracing the rim. The warmth from the ceramic seeped into his skin. After a long silence, he finally spoke, his voice low and raspy. “I know.”
Those two words made Gian frown. He leaned forward again. “You know? You know, and you’re still keeping him? Alexander, you’re not a man who acts on impulse. You’re fully aware of the risks, so why are you taking them?”
Gian fell silent. He knew Danielle’s character—gentle, but with her own principles and boundaries. He looked at Alexander, and the doubt in his eyes slowly faded, replaced by a resigned sigh. “Keeping him around is still like planting a bomb. Especially with Niki.”
“Niki is young and naive, without a single deceitful bone in her body,” Gian said gravely, his fingers tapping the table. “She treats Raffy like her real brother now, sticking to him all day, playing happily. She shares her snacks with him, and she’s the first to rush in and protect him if anyone bullies him.”

Although she was one of the protagonist (and best friend of Danielle), I'm really annoyed with Kristen. What does she actually want? She wants to be completely free from Gian, whatever their business is. But when Gian doesn't care about her, she gets annoyed and overthinks. Hey, Kristen, the world doesn't revolve around you. You may follow your own feelings, but that doesn't mean you can ignore other people's feelings at all!...
It seems like this novel will end at chapter 5000. Every time one issue ends, another one pops up, and it seems like the author is just trying to drag it out. I'm starting to get tired of reading it....
I hope daniele will have no end game with alexander since whatever the reason is, he only give her too much grievencess. I hope there will be another male character with stronger present than alexander to have the end game with daniele. Hated that in the name of love or protection alexander can treat another woman better, not just once, but with this new lorie girl... Oh my blood pressure getting higher cause by the new plot :(...
