The Davidson Group headquarters.
Danielle walked into the lobby with a brisk step, carrying an insulated thermos.
The receptionist smiled respectfully the moment she saw her. “Good morning, Danielle. Mr. Davidson is still in a meeting on the top floor. It should wrap up in about ten minutes.”
“I know,” Danielle nodded, her voice warm. “I'll just head up and wait for him. No need to announce me.”
She made her way to the private elevator with familiar ease. Just as her finger brushed the button, she caught the low hum of gossip behind her.
“Is that Danielle? The one who always comes to deliver things to Mr. Davidson?”
The speaker was Larkin from the administrative department. She was holding a stack of files, but her eyes were glued to Danielle's retreating back.
“Who else? I heard she had some history with Mr. Davidson. Looks like she's trying to rekindle an old flame.”
The female colleague beside her curled her lip, her tone laced with sour jealousy. “A man like Mr. Davidson has countless heiresses throwing themselves at him. Coming around every few days like this is a bit desperate, don't you think?”
“What's her background anyway? Mr. Davidson definitely treats her differently. Last time she brought documents over, he personally walked her to the elevator.”
Danielle's footsteps paused for a fraction of a second, but she didn't turn around.
The weightless words hit her back, failing to stir even a ripple of emotion.
The elevator doors glided open, and Danielle stepped inside, pressing the button for the top floor.
She looked down at the carefully simmered artisan chicken stew in the thermos, then patted her pocket where the medication rested—
Rebecca had been very specific: Alexander needed to take it right after eating. He couldn't afford to delay it anymore.
Remembering how Alexander had stayed up late in his study reviewing documents the night before, a flash of heartache crossed Danielle's eyes.
The elevator rose smoothly, arriving at the top floor in no time.
Stepping out, the staff in the secretary's office smiled and greeted her immediately.
“Danielle, please come in and have a seat!”
Chloe, one of the secretaries, stood up warmly. “Mr. Davidson is in the conference room. Can I get you a glass of water?”
“No, thank you.”
Danielle politely declined with a smile. Walking up to the CEO's office, she pulled out a key and unlocked the door. “I'll just wait for him inside.”
Alexander had given her this key a long time ago, making sure she could come in whenever she wanted.
The office still held the faint aroma of coffee. A towering stack of files sat on the expansive mahogany desk, right next to an empty glass.
Danielle walked over, set the thermos on the coffee table, and placed the pillbox where it couldn't be missed. Then, she began organizing the scattered documents on his desk.
Her movements were gentle as she sorted the paperwork into neat piles and refilled Alexander's glass with warm water.
Danielle looked up, meeting Alexander's amused gaze, and her heart skipped a beat.
“When did you get here?”
Alexander walked up to her, reaching out to tuck a stray lock of hair behind her ear. The heat radiating from his fingertips made her tremble slightly.
“Just a few minutes ago,” Danielle took a step back, dodging his touch, and pointed at the thermos on the coffee table. “The stew is still hot. Drink it now. And don't forget your medication.”
“Rebecca specifically reminded me, you have to take this medication after meals, three times a day. You can't miss a dose.”
Alexander chuckled under his breath, taking a seat on the sofa and unscrewing the lid of the thermos.
The rich aroma of the chicken stew instantly filled the air. He picked up the spoon and took a sip.
“It's delicious,” he said, looking at Danielle, unable to hide the adoration in his eyes. “Better than a Michelin-star chef.”
“How long did you simmer this for today?”
“I was up at five,” Danielle said, sitting in the armchair opposite him and handing over the pillbox. “I let it slow-cook for three hours. If you like it, I'll make it again tomorrow.”
“Don't work so hard.”
Alexander took the pills, swallowing them down with the warm water. “I'll have the kitchen staff learn the recipe. Just rest at home.”

The readers' comments on the novel: The Wife You Buried Is Back from Hell
Although she was one of the protagonist (and best friend of Danielle), I'm really annoyed with Kristen. What does she actually want? She wants to be completely free from Gian, whatever their business is. But when Gian doesn't care about her, she gets annoyed and overthinks. Hey, Kristen, the world doesn't revolve around you. You may follow your own feelings, but that doesn't mean you can ignore other people's feelings at all!...
It seems like this novel will end at chapter 5000. Every time one issue ends, another one pops up, and it seems like the author is just trying to drag it out. I'm starting to get tired of reading it....
