Niki really had ranked first in the entire grade, scoring straight A-pluses in English, Math, and Science.
Raffy's grades, however, were a harsh reality check. He had dropped out of the top hundred, falling nearly fifty spots from his usual rank.
Danielle held her phone, her brow furrowing with concern.
She knew he was going to be crushed.
After mulling it over, she decided not to tell the kids just yet. She'd wait until Alexander got home that night so they could figure out how to comfort him together.
But she didn't get the chance. Niki practically skipped through the front door after school, waving a shiny certificate and screaming, "Mom! Mom! I got first place in my grade!"
"My teacher even gave me a special award!"
Danielle laughed, taking the certificate. "That's incredible, sweetheart! What kind of reward do you want?"
"Skiing! And I want you and Dad to come with us!"
Niki answered without missing a beat.
Right then, Raffy walked in, staring at the floor. He clutched his report card, his eyes noticeably red.
He spotted Niki's award and stopped in his tracks, then quietly walked over to the corner and shoved his report card into his backpack.
Niki's bubbly excitement instantly vanished.
She looked from Raffy's miserable posture to Danielle's sympathetic face and immediately understood.
Putting her certificate down, she ran over and grabbed his hand, looking at him seriously. "It's okay, Raffy."
"You didn't do great this time, but we'll just try harder for the next one."
"I'll help you study over the break. You can read all my notes, and I'll make sure your grades go back up."
Raffy looked up at her.
Sniffling, he gave a small nod and managed a weak smile. "Yeah."
Watching the scene play out, Danielle's heart swelled.
She walked over and affectionately rubbed both their heads. "Alright, no more long faces."
"The grades are in, and there's nothing we can do about it now."
"Tomorrow, we're hitting the ski resort to just let loose and have fun!"
"Awesome!"
Niki cheered, and a spark of genuine excitement finally returned to Raffy's eyes.
When Alexander came home that evening, he was carrying two brand-new sets of ski gear.
He smiled and handed one to the boy. "Got this for you, Raffy. Tomorrow we hit the slopes."
Raffy's eyes lit up as he looked at the high-end snowsuit. "Thanks, Dad!"
Alexander ruffled his hair and turned to Danielle, a grin on his face. "Everything's packed and ready. We head out first thing in the morning."
She nodded, offering him a warm, tender smile.
The sky was barely light when Niki jumped out of bed, already strapped into her new snow gear and sprinting laps around the living room.
Raffy was up early too, wearing a genuine, eager smile.
With Alexander at the wheel, Danielle in the passenger seat, and the kids in the back chatting nonstop, they hit the road.
The SUV drove out of the city limits, heading steadily toward the mountain resort.
Outside, the snowfall was getting heavier by the minute.
Niki and Raffy pressed their faces against the glass, pointing and yelling in excitement at the winter wonderland.
-
By the time they rolled into the resort town, the sky had completely cleared.
Sunlight streamed through the windshield, casting a warm, golden glow over Danielle's face.
She turned her head, gazing out at the breathtaking scenery.
"Whoa! Look at all the snow!" Niki smacked the window in excitement, her eyes sparkling. "Mom! Dad! When can we go play in it?"
Gripping the steering wheel, Alexander glanced at the hyperactive little girl in the rearview mirror, a grin on his face. "Patience, kiddo. Once we drop off our bags and get dressed, we'll head straight out."
Raffy leaned forward too, taking in the snow-covered slopes with a look of pure awe.
He had been brooding ever since his grades came out, but staring at the endless expanse of white, that carefree, youthful energy finally returned to his face.
Danielle reached back to ruffle his hair. "If you get scared out there later, just hold onto my hand, alright?"

The readers' comments on the novel: The Wife You Buried Is Back from Hell
Although she was one of the protagonist (and best friend of Danielle), I'm really annoyed with Kristen. What does she actually want? She wants to be completely free from Gian, whatever their business is. But when Gian doesn't care about her, she gets annoyed and overthinks. Hey, Kristen, the world doesn't revolve around you. You may follow your own feelings, but that doesn't mean you can ignore other people's feelings at all!...
It seems like this novel will end at chapter 5000. Every time one issue ends, another one pops up, and it seems like the author is just trying to drag it out. I'm starting to get tired of reading it....
I hope daniele will have no end game with alexander since whatever the reason is, he only give her too much grievencess. I hope there will be another male character with stronger present than alexander to have the end game with daniele. Hated that in the name of love or protection alexander can treat another woman better, not just once, but with this new lorie girl... Oh my blood pressure getting higher cause by the new plot :(...
