Mike whipped his head toward Danielle. "You played me?"
"The feeling is mutual," Danielle replied coolly. She tapped the micro-earpiece hidden in her collar. "Alex, everyone's in position. Let's wrap this up."
"Are you hurt?" Alex asked.
"I'm fine. Everything went smoothly," she replied with a faint smile.
Before she even finished speaking, a familiar figure strode out from the blinding lights. Alex pushed his way through the crowd and walked straight to Danielle.
He pulled her into his arms, his gaze scanning her from head to toe. Only when he confirmed she was completely unharmed did he finally exhale a heavy breath.
Alex turned his dark, menacing gaze toward Mike.
Mike took a slow step back, keeping his eyes on Danielle. "You've really disappointed me."
A sudden wave of unease washed over her.
The moment those words left his lips—
A deafening roar erupted from the sky above them.
The noise grew closer and more intense, violently rattling the air above the abandoned building materials factory.
