Harold escaping overseas meant Alexander was going to go after him. And the world outside their borders was infinitely more dangerous.
"I'm going after him myself. I'll track him down and finish this."
Alexander looked down at Danielle and spoke softly. "I'm sorry for putting you through this again."
Danielle snapped out of her shock. She threw her arms around him, pulling him into a desperate hug. "I knew it," she choked out. "I knew you were going to say that."
"Alexander, it's a warzone over there. Harold practically owns the underworld. You can't go. I won't let you."
She didn't care about Harold's revenge or what happened to Ashford. Her only fear was losing Alexander.
He was her rock, her entire world. If something happened to him, what would she and Niki do?
Alexander rubbed her back, holding her close to soothe her panic. "I know you're scared, but I don't have a choice."
"As long as Harold is alive, we'll have targets on our backs."
"If he gets a chance to rebuild, he's going to come back swinging. And he'll aim straight for us, for Niki, with everything he has."
"I can't let you live in fear. I have to end this. I have to put him down for good."
"But it's not our territory," Danielle cried, gripping his shirt so tightly her knuckles turned white. It was as if she thought he would vanish if she let go. "If something goes wrong out there, what am I supposed to do? What about Niki?"
Danielle's voice broke. She clung to him desperately, refusing to let him go.
"Nothing's going to go wrong."
Alexander leaned down and kissed her forehead. "I have my own connections and resources over there, and Interpol is going to back my play."

Although she was one of the protagonist (and best friend of Danielle), I'm really annoyed with Kristen. What does she actually want? She wants to be completely free from Gian, whatever their business is. But when Gian doesn't care about her, she gets annoyed and overthinks. Hey, Kristen, the world doesn't revolve around you. You may follow your own feelings, but that doesn't mean you can ignore other people's feelings at all!...
It seems like this novel will end at chapter 5000. Every time one issue ends, another one pops up, and it seems like the author is just trying to drag it out. I'm starting to get tired of reading it....
I hope daniele will have no end game with alexander since whatever the reason is, he only give her too much grievencess. I hope there will be another male character with stronger present than alexander to have the end game with daniele. Hated that in the name of love or protection alexander can treat another woman better, not just once, but with this new lorie girl... Oh my blood pressure getting higher cause by the new plot :(...
