Sammie's tone was completely flat, as if discussing the weather. "As long as you're breathing, do whatever you want."
Hook her up to an IV.
Keep her breathing, and nothing else mattered.
Rebecca violently rolled over, staring at him in sheer disbelief. Her eyes widened, a storm of shock, absurdity, and deeply wounded anger brewing in them.
"Sammie, what did you just say?"
Her voice trembled.
Not from fear, but from the utter impossibility of his words.
This was the man who once claimed he would give his life for her. The bodyguard who had stood quietly behind her for over a decade, never daring to raise his voice.
And now, he was using this tone to tell her that her hunger strike was useless, that he would put her on an IV, and that she was never leaving.
"I said," Sammie looked down at her, his dark eyes unreadable, "you don't have to eat. I won't force you. But don't even dream about leaving."
"When your body gives out, I'll have you put on fluids. I'll make sure you don't die."
"If you want to play this game of endurance, I will play it with you until the bitter end."
Looking at him, Rebecca felt a chilling unfamiliarity.
Over ten years of companionship, trust, and reliance collapsed in an instant.
He wasn't acting out of spite. He wasn't just throwing out threats.
He was dead serious.
He genuinely intended to trap her here like this—forever.
"You're insane..." she muttered, her eyes growing icy. "Sammie, you've completely lost your mind."
"I'm perfectly sane." His tone didn't waver. "I just can't let you leave."
"Why?!" Rebecca's voice cracked as her emotions finally exploded. "We've been over for a long time! You have your fiancée, and I have my own life! What gives you the right to lock me up here?! What right do you have?!"
"The right to stop you from throwing your life away." Sammie's gaze darkened. "You know exactly what kind of place Africa is and what Doctors Without Borders face out there. I won't let you go."
"That's my business!"
"As of today, it's my business."
With one sentence, he effectively suffocated all her arguments.
Rebecca shook with rage, her chest heaving, but words failed her.

The readers' comments on the novel: The Wife You Buried Is Back from Hell
Although she was one of the protagonist (and best friend of Danielle), I'm really annoyed with Kristen. What does she actually want? She wants to be completely free from Gian, whatever their business is. But when Gian doesn't care about her, she gets annoyed and overthinks. Hey, Kristen, the world doesn't revolve around you. You may follow your own feelings, but that doesn't mean you can ignore other people's feelings at all!...
It seems like this novel will end at chapter 5000. Every time one issue ends, another one pops up, and it seems like the author is just trying to drag it out. I'm starting to get tired of reading it....
I hope daniele will have no end game with alexander since whatever the reason is, he only give her too much grievencess. I hope there will be another male character with stronger present than alexander to have the end game with daniele. Hated that in the name of love or protection alexander can treat another woman better, not just once, but with this new lorie girl... Oh my blood pressure getting higher cause by the new plot :(...
