Danielle stood there, speechless.
If she could have vanished into a hole in the ground, she would have.
Alexander’s eyes fixed on her, sharp and knowing. It was as if he’d expected her to come back and eavesdrop. Now, caught red-handed, the awkwardness in the air was almost unbearable.
“I was just passing by,” Danielle tried, her voice stiff.
“Still stubborn, I see.”
Alexander glanced at his watch, then got right to the point, his tone cool and businesslike. “When they announce the bidding later, make sure Ninesky doesn’t enter into any deals with Vanguard Technologies at the investors’ meeting.”
No one could deny Alexander’s impressive network and how fast he got wind of things. The rest of them had no clue what the new bidding project would be, but Alexander already seemed to know every detail.
“What’s the project?” Danielle asked.
“Satellite engineering,” he replied. “And Vanguard Technologies isn’t what they make themselves out to be. Their public image is nothing like what goes on behind closed doors.”
He continued, “Sure, Ninesky’s past collaborations with them went fine—mostly because you didn’t need much from them. But once you start relying on them long-term, once your needs grow, they can’t deliver.”
Danielle frowned, trying to process this. How could he know so much about Vanguard’s internal issues? Outwardly, Vanguard Technologies was still the industry leader, untouchable as ever, with first-rate tech and a spotless engineering record. Everything Alexander was saying would sound impossible to anyone else.
After all, Vanguard looked strong enough to stand for decades to come.
Danielle’s breath caught in her throat. His intuition was uncanny—nothing got past him. Standing this close, she felt as if he could see right through her.
She stared at him, searching for any sign of vulnerability. He wasn’t much older than her, yet his insight was unsettling, almost frightening. Too skilled, too cunning.
And yet, there was something magnetic about him. No matter how many lines he crossed, Alexander had a way of making people want to trust him. He was born to lead, to command.
Danielle closed her eyes for a moment and drew a slow, steady breath.
Maybe it was that same quality—the dangerous allure of his authority—that had made her fall for him so hard, so fast.
It was no wonder Millie would go to hell and back for him.

Although she was one of the protagonist (and best friend of Danielle), I'm really annoyed with Kristen. What does she actually want? She wants to be completely free from Gian, whatever their business is. But when Gian doesn't care about her, she gets annoyed and overthinks. Hey, Kristen, the world doesn't revolve around you. You may follow your own feelings, but that doesn't mean you can ignore other people's feelings at all!...
It seems like this novel will end at chapter 5000. Every time one issue ends, another one pops up, and it seems like the author is just trying to drag it out. I'm starting to get tired of reading it....
I hope daniele will have no end game with alexander since whatever the reason is, he only give her too much grievencess. I hope there will be another male character with stronger present than alexander to have the end game with daniele. Hated that in the name of love or protection alexander can treat another woman better, not just once, but with this new lorie girl... Oh my blood pressure getting higher cause by the new plot :(...
