She had barely finished when voices drifted in from the corridor.

"Did you hear? Mr. Atwood turned Millie down—over some woman."

"I saw Millie myself this morning, she came to the office to meet Mr. Atwood. God, she's stunning. So confident, so cool, almost intimidating—she's the rising star of the industry right now. Not only is she brilliant, but she's also friends with Mr. Davidson. I honestly don't get Mr. Atwood."

"Seriously. Mr. Atwood passed on Millie—who has a PhD, for crying out loud—to hire some girl with just a bachelor's degree? Makes no sense."

But if Audrey can't accept this, and if Danielle can't prove herself and ends up slowing us down, if she refuses to leave, then honestly, the rest of us might start thinking about leaving too."
