Twenty minutes later, Rebecca arrived at the apartment building. She sprinted up the stairs and found the front door ajar, her sense of dread intensifying.
She pushed the door open and saw him immediately—a crumpled figure on the study floor.
Alexander was lying on his side, his face ashen, his hair soaked with cold sweat. He was clutching his chest, his breathing so shallow it was barely perceptible.
“Alexander!” Rebecca cried, rushing to his side. She knelt and checked for breath, a wave of relief washing over her as she felt the faint puff of air against her cheek.
She immediately called for an ambulance, then carefully propped his head up to keep his airway clear. While they waited, she looked at the lifeless man on the floor, a profound sadness welling up inside her. She had known Alexander for years and was aware of the deep vulnerability hidden beneath his formidable exterior.
Depression was an invisible cage that had trapped him, and the constant conflicts with his family, particularly regarding Heather, had repeatedly pushed him to the brink. The vacant look in his eyes as he lay on the floor, completely devoid of any will to live, sent a chill down her spine.
Perhaps, she thought grimly, he truly believed that death was easier than living.
The ambulance arrived quickly, and Alexander was carried out on a stretcher and rushed to the hospital.
After several hours of emergency treatment, he was finally stabilized and moved to a regular room.
As evening fell, Alexander slowly opened his eyes. The room was quiet, punctuated only by the soft, rhythmic beeping of the monitors. He turned his head and saw Rebecca sitting by his bed. His expression was a flat, chilling void, his gaze so unnervingly calm it was as if the man who’d just clawed his way back from the brink of death wasn’t him at all.
With that, she turned and walked out, closing the door softly behind her.
—
The room was quiet again. Alexander opened his eyes, staring at the ceiling, his gaze dark and unreadable. After a long while, he lowered his eyelids, a profound stillness settling over him as he buried his emotions deep in the shadows of his mind.
Meanwhile, Danielle was anxiously waiting for news in her office at the Aerospace Institute.

I hope daniele will have no end game with alexander since whatever the reason is, he only give her too much grievencess. I hope there will be another male character with stronger present than alexander to have the end game with daniele. Hated that in the name of love or protection alexander can treat another woman better, not just once, but with this new lorie girl... Oh my blood pressure getting higher cause by the new plot :(...

OMG! Chapters 451-462 had me on edge. I wish we could also read Alexander's POV. I swear I want to punch him and Millie. This story is kind of a push and pull. The main character will win some, then lose some. Hope the writer gives Danielle a big win....
