His fingers traced the cool surface of the phone as Danielle's words replayed in his mind. A heavy weight settled in his chest, making it hard to breathe.

On the other end, Danielle tossed her phone onto the desk and gently massaged her temples. It wasn't that she didn't understand Alexander's concern, but his interference always made her feel like there was an invisible wall between them. He refused to let her into his world yet still tried to control her choices. The contradiction was exhausting.
Later that evening, her phone lit up with Niki's name, and the coldness in Danielle's eyes finally began to melt. She answered the video call, and her daughter's round face immediately filled the screen, her voice thick with a childish sob. "Mommy, when are you coming back? Niki misses you!"
"Soon, sweetie," Danielle soothed, glancing at the nanny in the background to confirm her daughter was well-cared for. "Mommy will be home as soon as I finish my work. You be a good girl for the nanny, okay?"
"Okay!" Niki nodded enthusiastically, then leaned closer to the screen and whispered, "Mommy, are you and Daddy getting along over there? Is Daddy being mean to you?"
Danielle's heart skipped a beat. She thought of her argument with Alexander earlier but forced a smile. "No, sweetie. Mommy and Daddy are fine. Don't you worry." She couldn't bear to let her daughter worry or sense the rift between them.
Alexander raised a hand to stop him, his voice hoarse. "Leave me alone. I just need to be by myself for a while." He picked up his glass, refilled it, and downed it in one go.
Nash looked at his disheveled state and sighed. He knew the only person who could help Mr. Davidson was Danielle, but with the chasm between them growing deeper, he didn't know what to do.
"Mr. Davidson, if you truly care about Miss Crawford and your daughter, you shouldn't be sitting here drinking yourself into a stupor," Nash said, finding his courage. "Feelings need to be expressed, not constantly pushed away. You think you're protecting them, but you're just hurting them. I can see that Miss Crawford still has feelings for you, and your daughter adores you. Isn't that the foundation of a happy family? Why do you keep pushing them away?"

I hope daniele will have no end game with alexander since whatever the reason is, he only give her too much grievencess. I hope there will be another male character with stronger present than alexander to have the end game with daniele. Hated that in the name of love or protection alexander can treat another woman better, not just once, but with this new lorie girl... Oh my blood pressure getting higher cause by the new plot :(...

OMG! Chapters 451-462 had me on edge. I wish we could also read Alexander's POV. I swear I want to punch him and Millie. This story is kind of a push and pull. The main character will win some, then lose some. Hope the writer gives Danielle a big win....
