She had certainly lost her dignity and self-respect in the process.
Danielle looked at Leanne coolly. “Everything depends on evidence. Committing perjury is also a crime.”
“Evidence?” Leanne sneered, pulling a file from her purse and slapping it on the table. “This is the evidence! Take a good look. This is the new evidence Millie submitted, proving that Danielle was the one who leaked state secrets. She’s the one who gave the technical data to Millie!”
“Alexander, do you think protecting her will do any good? Soon, she’ll end up just like my daughter—utterly disgraced, or maybe even worse!”
Danielle looked at the file on the table. “Ms. Leanne, whether I leaked secrets or not is for the court to investigate, not for you to decide. You could face legal consequences for spreading baseless rumors here.”
“Rumors?” Leanne’s smile grew wider. “Just wait. When the hearing begins, all the evidence will be laid bare. Then you’ll see who the real criminal is! Alexander, you and Danielle—neither of you will get away!”
Alexander set down his coffee cup and stood up. His tall frame instantly blocked the curious stares directed at Danielle. He looked at Leanne and chuckled softly. “Then by all means, try.”
His voice wasn’t loud, but it made Leanne flinch and take an involuntary step back. She met his icy gaze and felt a flicker of fear, but the thought of her powerful backers gave her the courage to stand her ground. “Fine! We’ll see you in court! We’ll see just how long you can keep up this act!”
With that, she snatched the file from the table and turned, her high heels clicking as she made a hasty retreat from the coffee shop.
As Leanne’s figure disappeared, Danielle finally let her tense body relax, leaning back in her chair with a soft sigh.
Alexander sat back down and passed her a glass of water. “Drink some water. Don’t let her get to you.”
Alexander met her eyes. “It’s my responsibility. No need for thanks.”
Danielle froze, her heart skipping a beat.
Leanne's retreating footsteps had faded, and the murmurs in the coffee shop slowly died down. Alexander noticed her lingering unease and was about to say something comforting when a set of steady footsteps approached their table. He looked up to see Attorney Stewart walking toward them, carrying a stack of files, followed by a distinguished-looking middle-aged man in a dark suit.
“Mr. Davidson, sorry for the delay.” Attorney Stewart reached the table, placed the files down, and stepped aside to make an introduction. “This is Director Linden from the court. He came to get a better understanding of the case.”
Director Linden smiled and extended his hand. “Alex, long time no see. That complex financial case you helped the court resolve is still used as a textbook example.”

I hope daniele will have no end game with alexander since whatever the reason is, he only give her too much grievencess. I hope there will be another male character with stronger present than alexander to have the end game with daniele. Hated that in the name of love or protection alexander can treat another woman better, not just once, but with this new lorie girl... Oh my blood pressure getting higher cause by the new plot :(...

OMG! Chapters 451-462 had me on edge. I wish we could also read Alexander's POV. I swear I want to punch him and Millie. This story is kind of a push and pull. The main character will win some, then lose some. Hope the writer gives Danielle a big win....
