“Rest assured, we will strictly adhere to protocol and only copy footage relevant to the case. No other information will be compromised.”
The manager’s expression relaxed as he listened. He understood the weight of a lawyer’s letter and a court order and had no desire to get entangled in a legal battle. After a moment’s thought, he nodded. “Alright, I’ll take you to see the footage.”
The security room was a small space on the second floor, filled with several monitors displaying real-time feeds from inside and outside the store.
The manager pulled up the recordings from the past week and, at Alexander’s request, focused the playback on the print shop’s entrance.
Danielle leaned in, her eyes glued to the screen.
Minutes ticked by. When the footage reached the afternoon of three days prior, she suddenly pointed at the monitor. “Stop. That’s her.”
On the screen, Leanne, wearing her red dress and sunglasses, was walking out of the print shop. She was holding a thick file envelope and quickly got into a black sedan waiting by the curb.
More importantly, as the driver turned his head, his profile was visible for a split second. Danielle recognized him instantly—it was Harold’s driver.
“Rewind it. See what she had when she went in,” Alexander said.
The manager reversed the footage. It showed Leanne entering the shop empty-handed. When she came out, she was holding the file envelope. It was clear the documents had been produced inside the print shop—this had to be her so-called new evidence.
“Copy this segment for us,” Alexander told the manager.
The manager nodded, inserted a USB drive, and copied the relevant clips. He handed it to Alexander. “It’s all on here. From her first visit to her last one this afternoon, every recording is included.”
Alexander took the drive, thanked him, and left the convenience store with Danielle.
Back in the car, before the door was even fully closed, Danielle watched Alexander’s hands on the steering wheel.
Her own fingers curled slightly as she spoke softly, “The next time you have a doctor’s appointment… can I go with you?”
Alexander’s movement to start the car froze. He turned his head to look at her.
The atmosphere in the car fell silent, broken only by the streetlight filtering through the window, casting shifting shadows across his face. His expression was complex, his gaze cold and deep.
Danielle lowered her eyes, her fingertips brushing against the fabric of her pants. Her voice was laced with guilt. “We’ve been married for so many years, and I never even noticed you were struggling. I was so unobservant. If I had realized sooner, maybe you wouldn’t have had to carry this burden alone for so long.”
“This has nothing to do with you,” Alexander’s voice was soft but firm, leaving no room for argument. “I didn’t want you to find out. I didn’t want you to see me like that… so vulnerable.”

OMG! Chapters 451-462 had me on edge. I wish we could also read Alexander's POV. I swear I want to punch him and Millie. This story is kind of a push and pull. The main character will win some, then lose some. Hope the writer gives Danielle a big win....
