She gazed out the window at the night sky.
Just then, her phone buzzed with a message from Alexander: "Nash has connected Harold's driver to the print shop owner. The chain of evidence is solidifying. Don't worry, get some rest."
Danielle read the message, her brow furrowing.
She replied simply, "You get some rest too. Take care of yourself."
Then she put her phone down and closed her eyes.
Even though Alexander still wouldn't let her near his vulnerability, she could see his care and protection in everything he did.
Maybe, she thought, they just needed more time.

The next morning, Danielle arrived at a downtown bistro for a scheduled client meeting.
Pushing open the glass door, she scanned the dining room, heading for her reserved window seat when her gaze suddenly froze.
At a nearby table sat Alexander, and across from him was a woman in a cream-colored dress.
The woman seemed to notice her stare, turning to look. Her eyes lit up, and she immediately stood, waving. "Chief Engineer Crawford, it really is you!"
Danielle paused, the woman's face stirring a faint memory.
She walked over and offered a polite nod. "Hello, have we…"
"You probably don't remember me, do you?" the woman said with a warm, familiar smile. "I used to work in the tech department at Ninesky. Lorie Gaylord. You supervised me on the drone sensor calibration project and even complimented my detailed data logs!"
Without a second glance, she turned and walked briskly to her table.
As she pulled out her chair, she realized her fingertips were cold.
Lorie's smile, the word "fiancé," Alexander's silent consent—it all replayed in her mind.
The restaurant’s soft music did nothing to calm her. She picked up the menu, her eyes scanning the list of dishes, but her mind was miles away.
Was the partnership real? Why didn't Alexander explain? What was their relationship… really?
When her client arrived, Danielle forced herself to snap back to professional mode.
But throughout the entire conversation, her eyes kept drifting back to that other table, watching Lorie lean in to whisper something to Alexander, watching him occasionally nod in response. Her heart felt like it was being squeezed, and she missed several things her client said.

I hope daniele will have no end game with alexander since whatever the reason is, he only give her too much grievencess. I hope there will be another male character with stronger present than alexander to have the end game with daniele. Hated that in the name of love or protection alexander can treat another woman better, not just once, but with this new lorie girl... Oh my blood pressure getting higher cause by the new plot :(...

OMG! Chapters 451-462 had me on edge. I wish we could also read Alexander's POV. I swear I want to punch him and Millie. This story is kind of a push and pull. The main character will win some, then lose some. Hope the writer gives Danielle a big win....
