When Danielle arrived at the Aerospace Institute, several cars were already parked out front. As soon as she got out of her car, she saw Lorie standing by the entrance of the office building, apparently waiting for her.
Upon seeing Danielle, Lorie walked over quickly, her face radiating concern. "Chief Engineer Crawford, are you alright after last night? I saw you drink so much and I was worried sick. I specifically asked Alex to stay and look after you, in case you felt unwell during the night with no one around."
Danielle's stomach clenched at the words "specifically asked Alex to stay." Lorie’s tone was deliberately emphatic, as if Alexander's presence had been granted by her approval, making her concern feel more like a condescending favor.
"Thank you for your concern, Miss Gaylord. I'm fine," Danielle replied, her voice flat and devoid of emotion. "I appreciate Mr. Davidson's help last night, and I'll thank him myself."
Lorie seemed not to notice her detached tone, continuing with a smile. "Don't be so formal with me. We're colleagues; we should look out for each other. Besides, you drank so much to cover for me. I feel terrible about it."
Just then, River Atwood stepped out of the building. Overhearing their conversation, he couldn't help but interject. "If you really felt so terrible, Miss Gaylord, you would have stayed to look after Danielle yourself instead of handing her off to someone else."
His voice was laced with scorn, his eyes disapproving. "Being pregnant isn't an excuse. If you were truly concerned, you would have found a way."
Lorie's face fell. She hadn't expected River to speak up so bluntly. She bit her lip. "I wanted to stay, but with my pregnancy, it just wasn't feasible. I was afraid I'd be more of a burden than a help. Alex is a man; it's more convenient for him to take care of someone."
"Convenient?" River scoffed. "Have you forgotten, Miss Gaylord, that you and Mr. Davidson are engaged? Was it appropriate for him to spend the night at his ex-wife's home? If word gets out, what will people think of Danielle?"

I hope daniele will have no end game with alexander since whatever the reason is, he only give her too much grievencess. I hope there will be another male character with stronger present than alexander to have the end game with daniele. OMG! Chapters 451-462 had me on edge. I wish we could also read Alexander's POV. I swear I want to punch him and Millie. This story is kind of a push and pull. The main character will win some, then lose some. Hope the writer gives Danielle a big win....
