The two of them went back and forth, and the atmosphere in the living room grew lighter. Watching Gian meticulously plan everything out, Danielle felt the last of her anxiety dissipate. She knew that with a dependable friend like him by her side, the storm stirred up by the rumors would soon pass.
Just then, the bedroom door creaked open and Niki came running out, holding her workbook. “Mommy, uncle Gian, I finished my homework! Can we build with the blocks now?” she exclaimed.
Gian’s serious expression immediately melted into a warm smile. He beckoned to Niki. “Of course! Let’s build the biggest castle ever!”
Niki ran over happily and took Gian’s hand, leading him toward the pile of building blocks. Watching them, Danielle’s heart filled with warmth. She knew that there would still be challenges ahead, but with friends like Gian and Kirsten by her side, she had the courage to face anything.

The next evening, Danielle went to the Aerospace Institute to pick up some files. By the time she came out, the sky had turned a heavy, dark gray, threatening rain. Sure enough, fat raindrops began to fall, quickly forming streams on the ground. Danielle had just finished clearing her desk when she walked to the entrance, a cold, rainy wind hitting her face and making her shrink back.
