Her eyes narrowed. “He doesn’t get jealous of you,” she said defensively. “That’s not who Aaron is. But you… you go after everything he has and then act like he’s the one with the problem.”
“I haven’t gone after anything that was his,” I clarified, and I heard my own voice and the barely suppressed anger underneath it and closed the file. “If Aaron has told you otherwise, that’s a conversation between you and Aaron.”
“I’ve seen enough,” she concluded with the confidence of someone who’d been there all our lives. “And what I see is a man who’s been away for fifteen years trying to reclaim things that were fine without him.”
“Were they?” I leaned back, studying her.
She hesitated, just a fraction but pushed through. “The pack was running well”
“We both know, I’m not talking about the pack”
She looked at me evenly.
“Aaron is more qualified, he has been with his father all his life but you swooped in just before coronation knowing that alpha Asher is a stickler for rules.”
Oh, so that’s where the issue was.
“You should fight with the elders who made that rule, not me”
“I’m not fighting” she was struggling to keep the conversation going and put up some credible defense in favor of her very clumsy and lazy boyfriend.
“You… were absent from this pack for a long time. Aaron was here handling things and working closely with Alpha Asher. And then Aaron found me and we imagined a happily ever after”
“Congratulations”
That seemed to annoy her even further.
“How does Sienna even stand you if this is your attitude? Or maybe the reason she isn’t checking on you if you’ve eaten or if you are stressed is the fact that she can’t stand you.”
“Don’t drag her into this” I slapped the file on the table a bit too hard and the sound echoed through the office.
“No?” Sandra asked, finally getting a reaction from me and feeling happy about it.
“But you should wonder why she’s not here. Given everything.” She smiled, the kind with no warmth in it. “Or maybe she didn’t mention it.”

Chapter 115
I narrowed my eyes. “Mention what?”
65 vouchers
“The London trip,” her smile was turning malicious. “While you were away. The little…” she took a dramatic pause before continuing, “…situation she found herself in.”
I looked at her steadily. “Get to the point, Sandra. I don’t have all day”
“You are quick to raise your hands at your own brother but ever wondered what your so called partner and girlfriend does behind your back? Especially after you announced your union to the entire world proudly at your father’s anniversary”
I was tempted to tell her about her so–called loving and doting boyfriend. Here she was, accusing Sienna of some malice when her own boyfriend was laying hands on other women, her friend no less at that.
But I resisted the urge. Not because, I was afraid of their relationship failing but because that would give Aaron the perfect reason to run back to Sienna. Sandra was important because she kept him distracted enough.
Just one day away from me, and he must have definitely filled Sienna’s heart with contempt for me. Without Sandra, he would just act all hurt and needy, maybe even get Sienna to believe he was falling for her.
I would never let that happen. So I just sat there, hearing Sandra.
“Ask her,” Sandra shrugged, thinking she had turned me speechless due to her words. “Ask her what happened while you were in London and who had to step in and fix it. Ask her how Aaron, being the good man that he is, spent a significant amount of time and effort cleaning up after her.”
She tilted her head. “It might bring you down from that high horse you’ve been on since you arrived. Might make
you think twice about who in this family is actually reliable and who isnt”
“Be very careful of what you say about my partner,” My voice had dropped low, which she seemed to understand was different from calm.
She was not entirely without instinct, because she stopped.
“And you better not accuse her of anything” I warned.
The only reason she was still standing in front of me was the fact that she was a girl. Had it been Aaron or any other guy, I would have thrown them out of the room already.
“I’m saying,” Sandra continued carefully now, “that what she did while you were gone might make you reconsider a few things. Including…” she leaned forward, placing her hands on my desk,… how the coronation might look, if it came out and what alpha Asher would think.” She smoothed her dress. “That’s all.”
I raked a hand through my hair, recalling my conversation with Sienna. Something had definitely happened while I was away because she had fought me and said cruel things just for the sake of it.
When I asked her she pretended it was her getting jealous because of Elise and I believed it readily. But was
there more to it?
