Chapter 127

“I would take great pleasure in proving you wrong” Connor added as Rory scrambled to find an appropriate response.
“Is it true that your pack borders the Ferris and Holden territories?” Connor asked.
Rory blinked. “Yes”
“Who’ve been in conflict for about eight months.” Connor reached into his jacket.
“Their supply routes were first disrupted roughly around the same time. Three casualties were reported/last autumn tha were publicly blamed on a territorial dispute.”
Nobody made a sound as everybody heard Connor attentively. He was talking to Rory but by far the entire hall was packe with not just elders but other notable guests as well from other packs.
And not once did his voice waver.
He produced a small folded document and set it on the nearest table without looking at it. “Except it wasn’t territorial.”
“I don’t know what you are talking about” Rory started.
“The Ferris pack received anonymous information in March that Alpha Holden was encroaching on their eastern water access.”
Connor’s voice was conversational, like he wasn’t publicly tearing Rory down.
“The Holden pack received information in the same week that Alpha Ferris had brokered a deal to cut them out of the northern trading routes.” He looked at Rory, daring him to deny his next line.
“Both pieces of information came from the same source but neither was true.”
The two men had identical expressions of disbelief that was slowly morphing into anger.
“That’s….” Rory was fighting to keep the smile on his face. “That’s pure speculation, alpha Connor.”
He then looked at his friends and his smile disappeared altogether.
“Please tell me the source of your information. Your informer is feeding you a lie.”
Connor’s lips curled into a smirk.
“I was wondering when you would ask that.” He then shouted loudly. “Come in”
The doors to the main living room opened and a man entered, looking grim and injured. There was a sling on his left arm and he was limping towards us.
The man slowly walked in and then stood beside Connor.
“Introduce yourself, please”
The man looked at Alpha Asher and gave him a quick bow before speaking. “My name is Frank and I work as the official correspondent and head administrator for alpha Rory”
Connor then pointed at the document he placed on the table. “Could you please tell everyone what that is?”

Chapter 127
Frank looked at Rory once who grit his teeth but Connor placed a hand on his shoulder reassuringly.
“Don’t worry, you are safe here”
Frank gave him a tight nod and limped forward to read through the document. Then he looked up at the crowd,
“It’s correspondence,” Frank said. “Between me and two intermediaries. Archived, signed, and timestamped just like Alp Rory forced me to.”
Rory scowled. “Shut up you liar. 1 banished you from the pack when I caught you spreading lies about me!!
Frank flinched and he took a step back but Connor was undeterred.
“That you did. For making him lie on your behalf so if anybody ever found out, he would get blamed, not you.”
“Lies and more lies!!” Rory was shouting now.
Connor simply glanced at alpha Fenris and alpha Holden.
“Alpha Ferris. Alpha Holden. I think you’ll want to see this.”
The two men approached the desk and read through the document, their expressions worsening quickly.
Rory turned back to Connor and his entire behavior changed, the pleasantry was gone, and replaced by something harder.
“You’re doing this because of her.” He pointed at me. “Making me look bad”
Connor’s voice hardened instantly. “Don’t you dare mention her!
“I am sure she is mixed with my enemies. Everybody is…you all are liars!” Rory was shouting like a lunatic now.
“I found this,” Connor said, “six weeks ago, during the northern territory review. You’ve been on a list since then.” He looked at Rory with the complete absence of anything resembling anger, which was more frightening than anger would have been. “Tonight moved you to the top of it.”
“This is…” Ropry looked around the room for allies and found expressions that ranged from neutral to hostile. “This is slander. You can’t prove anything”
“I just did,” Connor replied with the same unnerving calm.
“Oh, I also forgot to add how you threatened Frank to stay silent and then tried to get him killed when he decided to reveal your fraud to the people you called friends.”
Rory was sputtering now. “I didn’t….”
Connor tilted his head to the side. “I also have the thugs you hired to kill Frank waiting outside the door. Want me to call them in and make them give testimony?”
Rory opened his mouth then closed abruptly.
“You were cleared of all the possible charges just last week because you put all the blame on Frank, threatened his family’s death if he dared open his mouth. Ahh, and where are your loyal sidekicks, your beta and gamma? They have a range of charges on them right from stalking and theft to murder”
Connor looked around the crowd and spotted the two men who had been laughing with Rory all this time but had separated from him once Connor stepped in.
“There they are” Connor pointed at the two men who cowered and tried to run but the guards grabbed them and brought them forward.

Chapter 127
“We….we didn’t do anything.” One of them began. “It was all Rory’s idea. He was the mastermind.”
The other too folded his hands together and fell to Connor’s feet.
“Yes, we can give our statements, give more proof”
